Good quality hinges put them on solid oak doors.

Here’s my take on these hinges. Solidly made but not a simple replacement for standard everyday non-ball bearing hinges - be prepared to rout out more of your door (the screw plates are likely to be thicker) & your frame. The problem with doing this is that if you’re not adept at woodworking & very very accurate, these hinges will bind. Ball bearing hinges are not very forgiving and this became an incredibly time-consuming fitting job. You can hear them binding as a dragging sound when the door is opened/closed. Troubleshooting this & trying to put it right, rapidly becomes a tedious thing. If you already have slightly oversized chunky hinges, then you may be lucky enough to avoid these issues. Just be aware, that tutorials that tell you to simply take one hinge off at a time to replace them are all presuming you are replacing hinges of a very similar thickness of screw plate and similar diameter of barrel.

A little bit expensive, but when I mentioned this to the carpenter he was able to give 3 reasons why he uses these all of which related to the quality of the construction. Other hinges may be a bit loose and flappy
