Thanks Doug, I needed that!
Whether you have the intro version of Manga Studio or the Pro version (EX), you will enjoy having this book handy. The cheat sheet alone is worth it..! ~8) As with all the Dummies volumes I possess the editorial staff has done a good job of helping the author outline and bring to clear focus the elements most needed to provide you with the answers to 'those mind numbing puzzles' we who enjoy such things as beating our heads into our keyboard at times, come across in our search to produce the 'COMIC of all comics'... I learned of this book on the Content Paradise Forum, having purchased a couple of e-frontiers products and desiring more input from fellow users of the Manga Studio software. It is only from those that have been working with the software for a bit that you get the nuances that are not normally shown face up,.. and thankfully, Doug had help from others like 'pencilkiller' as well with the main info. Get this book if you have Manga Studio (the debut version or the pro) or even if you are thinking of getting MS! Get this book, it will give you a HUGE head start. Good Job Doug! One P.S. This software is NOT just for comix! It can be used for book illustration, architectural illustration, and commercial graphics (even logo design!) in combination with other graphics softwares such as PhotoShop or the GIMP, etc., so this book is invaluable in unlocking the 'keys to the kingdom' (so-to-speak)!

What more could you need?
MS4D is without a doubt, the best source for guidance and information concerning Manga Studio. Doug does an excellent job to explaining manga studio's many functions and words it in such a way that you won't feel overwhelmed. This book as seriously increased my competence with the program, and I still go to it for help and reference when I get stuck. The best thing about this book is that even though the book was made for MS3, almost all the information inside works for MS 4 as well! If you have Manga Studio or are thinking of picking up a copy, be sure to get a copy of this book as well. You won't regret it.

Imparting the Craft
The book is detailed and written for novices just like me. I was surprised that there was a CD inside to get to work right away, that's just what I wanted to do. I do have Manga Studio software, but it never told me how to get started and finish at least one page, and then the next. Manga Studio for dummies gets me from the opening page to either imported material or freshly new art on the open page, to coloring, editing and finishing, not to forget saving it. I'm so glad I bought the book.

Don't blame Doug
Mr. Hills wrote his manual for the only Manga EX out there at the time, EX 3. Soon after, the Manga people came out with the EX 4 version. They made the EX 3 version unusable on the more current OS's, thus rendering Mr. Hills' fine manual passe. Yet Manga EX steadfastly refuses to include a tutorial for either EX 4 of EX 3, just some kink of reference manual.

Only covers Manga Studio 4
I bought this planning to use it to help me with Manga Studio 5 but unfortunately it seems to only cover MS 4. This is understandable seeing as how MS 5 is still relatively new, but I would have liked to know that prior to buying this book. Also, if the author could re-release this with updated information about MS 5 I would definitely buy it because this book does a great job of explaining things but MS 5 is just too different from MS 4 I guess to be able to use this book for both.

Manga studio for dummies
so far the jury is still out on this as to weather it is of any use to me or not most of the stuff in the book is not in any of the Manga studio that I have and I have Manga studio debut 4 and manga studio ex 4 altho there was some things in there that were not in the os software it was of some use as a paper weight for the drawings that I have drawn but cannot import into my computer like it says in the book

Project Had to Go Into Print First
What the Boss wants the Boss gets. "Animation project has to go into print first," He says. Already had Moho/Anime Studio so went to Manga Studio EX. Debut wasn't going to handle it. Need to learn the software fast? This is the book. Not a lot of hokey gags throughout the book. Instead lots of good useful information about the software. How to try different ways for tasks so that you find the way the best works for you. So you can keep on drawing your Manag or ANY style with Manga Studio.

I found this book to be in good condition and for a bargain
To be honest, this book is kind of dated, but at least I know how the new system works compared to the old and a lot of valued information is retained about the software that is usually passed over by tutorial artist who assume too much about the users background. I found this book to be in good condition and for a bargain. It arrived on time and even had the dvd-cd rom inside.

Help with a pinch of humour
I've had Manga Studio Debut since Christmas and I've been feeling my way with it. While I love the program, I found that the instruction manual (which is in pdf format) isn't that intuitive, so I pre-ordered Manga Studio for Dummies. After a first read through, I can see that it's going to be really useful. It gives great hints and tips and explains how to use all of the tools in a really easy to understand way. There are several tools that I was obviously using wrong! This book is well laid out, thoughtfully written and very humorous in places. It also comes with a cd, which has a trial version of Manga Studio EX and some other goodies, including bonus chapters. The book is a step by step guide to using Manga Studio (both versions) from the ground up and it's a bonus that it includes information on both the Mac and PC versions (with the caveat that the author uses PCs, not Macs!), meaning that users of both platforms will get good use out of this book. The screenshots and illustrations are clear and very useful, as are the list of tens at the back!If you have the program, I'd really recommend getting this book to help you get the most out of Manga Studio.

A good place to start
Manga Studio does so much to make life easier for the comic artist that it can be a bit bewildering understanding what the possibilities are. I found Manga Studio for Dummies a more accessible starting point than the 400 page PDF manual that comes with the program, thorough as that seems to be.Hope it won't be too long before there's a new edition to cover version 4 but I'd still recommend this edition to anyone who is just starting out. Until then there are a series of pithy YouTube videos by the author Doug Hills that will fill you in on what's new.The 5th Wave Rich Tennant cartoons at the start of each chapter are a useful reminder that Manga Studio isn't just for Manga artists; you can fo course use it to speed up your workflow in superheroes comics or the kind of things that I do, historical information strips and picture maps (along the lines of Lord of the Rings maps) to illustrate guided walks.

If your serious, dont start without it.
This book is a goood price, arrived well packaged with the software (manga studio EX in my case) and within good time. I cannot tell you how much this will help yo to get to grips whith what is (at first glance) a very overwhelming piece of software. The book is very well laid out- with a general overview which will helpfully point you in the right direction for a more detailed explination of techniques later.Even if you have a basic understanding of the software this book is full of shortcuts and extra's to make sure you fully exploit every tool to its full potential! Its also goes into detail about tips for after you've edited and are ready to publish, and draws on the authors own experiences to give a deeper understanding on many issues.Be prepared to do a little ground-work as the version the book refferences is from afew years ago... imagine your in a new and strange place- someone points and says "kitchens down that corridoor"- you may have to check a couple rooms to get there but you'll make it so much faster and know what to expect! All in all, a must-have for people of all levels!

Avoid!
Absolutely useless due to being ridiculously out of date, as most the functions described don't exist in the current program anymore, or have changed so much the information is of no use. While it's a symptom of software being updated and whatnot, it still makes the book only any good for propping up a table.

Quite a useful guide
This is quite useful if you want a readable tutorial for using manga studio. However if you prefer to just wing it and look up how you do something then you may as well just use the instruction manual that comes with the software.Of course, reading the book has let me know about quite a few features I never knew the program had.
