Massdrop x Beyerdynamic DT 177X GO Over-Ear Closed-Back Headphones, 32 Ohms, Detachable Cable, Replaceable Velour & Sheep Skin Ear Pads

First thing the price its up there but i think its worth it in the long run what you're getting here, next i'll say my goodbye to my beats studio LMAO. I have been eyeing this headphones for a while now with alot of research via youtube, hifi websites, comments, etc i must say it live up to my expectation so far and then some. The build quality- I'm giving it an A+, this thing is solid and feels good to touch and to be honest i've heard alot of reviewers said its heavy i dont feel it. I like it and looks stylist to be honest. The sound quality- for disclosure im still kinda new in the whole audiophile thin as for reference i own the Hifiman sundara and my amp is the monoprice liquid spark paired up with the fiio K3 as my dac bcoz i have the k3 way before i bought the liquid spark. Anyway while this is an close back you really cant compare really the sundara to this but i can tell you for sure the bass is there in a good way and for a close back the sound stage is really good and instrument separation as well is there not like the sundara but great in its own way. I'm still trying to get to know all of this thats why my evaluation of the sound quality is kinda vague but if you listen to anyone who review this headphones its pretty much it straight up like badseed tech and z review said. Overall im loving it so far and ive only have them for a couple of hours so far as the writing of this. A grade for sure. Oh also for gaming ITS GREAT, ill leave it like that. Negatives- I can only think of 2 things and that is the cable it came with have a mind of its own and it kinda suck it kinks so much hoping this will relax and other one is no extra cable atleast a coiled cable and a case. I know its from DROP but still for this price (470$ after tax) i kinda expect a little more in the accessories department because you can bring this everywhere not with a 3 meter cable... Conclusion- Overall so far i am happy with my purchase this is probably gonna be my go to going out headphones and gaming as well. I can honestly recommend this if budget is not an option there are alot to like here.

Out of the box, I did a bit of testing on a bunch of different genres... from classical symphonies to metal, from funk to country and pop to rock and roll and these cans were amazing at all of them. I got these as a replacement for my Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 80 Ohm version and these are just light and day better and I still really like my DT770s. These Drop 177x Go cans are also only 32 ohms, so they are easier to drive. I couldn't make my DT770s loud enough on some songs. Not a problem with these. In some cases, I needed to feed the more volume before they'd clean up and really shine. Pros: -removable headphone cable, mini 3-pin XLR female to 3.5mm male. -amazing dynamic range with plenty of clean bass -fixed slide bracket clamp. The old design had two screws pinning to pieces of plastic together to hold the headphones to the headband. They fixed it with a much cleaner redesign -5' cable very good length. The 10' cable on the DT 770s can be unwieldy. Cons: -Volume. They can get loud enough to cause damage, so always be careful. Lost hearing is lost. -No case. They just come in the box with an extra set of lower profile earpads and the cable. These would be very enjoyable on the road, but I wouldn't want to just leave them around my neck -Excellent headphones need replacement ear pads (Brainwavz XL earpads were what I got) and potentially an upgraded cable to really and truly shine. Still worth the money, but so close to being the bargain of the century. These are amazing headphones (been drooling over them for awhile) and the wife got them for my birthday. If these sound this nice right out of the box, I can't wait for them to really break in.

I bought these for when my PC fan ramping up bothers me, because everything else I have are open-backs. The sound is as expected from reading up on reviews. I have no trouble switching between my HD6XX (open-back) and these DT177X (closed-back) because they seem to have a similar sound signature. They don't wow me like my Sundara did, but there's nothing I can nitpick about the sound. I like how it sounds. Originally I only wanted to buy it for gaming (because that's why my PC fans ramp up and stay at high rpm making a constant noise) but now I find myself using it as my go-to all the time. The build feels solid and fitting for the price tag, unlike the toy-like DT770 Pros. The matte black design and elegant brading means I have no problem wearing these in public, although I would generally prefer to go wireless if I'm going to be mobile. If you dig "Made in Germany", this is it. The earpads are a little too small for my big ears. With thick-rimmed glasses on, they kind of sandwich my ears between my glasses and the earpad, and over long sessions could sometimes hurt. Otherwise they are surprisingly usable. With the Brainwavz XL pads, though, these become super comfortable and I can wear them for hours at a time. The cable, however, is just horrible and cannot be defended. It tries to maintain the loops it comes in, and there just doesn't seem to be a way to straighten them out. They also have microphonics, not so bad that they're not usable, but noticeable. The mini-XLR plug means replacement cables are extremely rare, and the rumored official balanced cable is nowhere to be found. So I went to Hart Audio Cables and ordered a set for these. All in all, I'd say they are worth their price tag. But they are by no means great value. If you need closed-back, if you like darker sound signatures, and if you don't mind shelling out another $100 to get aftermarket earpads and cables (well depending on your ears you could find the stock pads comfortable enough), then the DT 177X Go is worth serious consideration.

By no means that I am a pro audiophile but I have heard quite a lot of audio equipments and headphones. This headphone has a really rich and detailed bass, and the sound is laid back and very enjoyable (way better than their T1 3rd). It also has a different orientation than the DT 1990 Pro, the sound signature is warmer, and removed the 8k peak. It is also pretty linear. However, as you may have heard from other people that it does not have any soundstage, and while I am listening to this headphone, I feel like suffocation. In my opinion, zero soundstaging would be the only downside it has. ps. The unit I received is missing the Dekoni Sheepskin Pads.

Update. I want to edit this. I didn't have sun light for my new pair that I just got. It's hard to see in my basement where I listen to my headphones. I hate to say this but those photos might have just been left over oil from finger prints. Both pairs of headphones look good now. Look at the top of my amp, its perfect and left the same type of marks. I assume everything was good and I didn't need a replacement in the first place. I would like to apologize because cleaning the paint must have made those marks. It did the same on my brand new amp as shown. Disregard the marks in these photos its finger print oil that was cleaned. OLD REVIEW BELOW.. First view the photos so you know if you purchase this item to check the paint or powder coating flaws, I believe that for 470 dollars you shouldn't have any paint problems. First off I already have a new pair on their way to my house because of the imperfections. Amazon definitely took care of me to get a new pair. I love these headphones, closed with good sound. The thing I really like is how the BTR5 can power these unbalanced and balenced. That's 110 dollar Bluetooth amp and you don't even come near maxing the power out with the balenced 2.5mm on that dac/amp. If you need a balenced cable it's about 35 bucks on Hart Audio Cables website. I get all my cables from them and I recommend their system, I suggest you go check them out if you have never heard of them. Anyway great headphones for the money if you need a closed back.

They kept slipping down my head and wouldn't stay put on my ears. I wasn't abe to wear these for more than 5 minutes without having to re-adjust. Other than the fit, the sound quality is great. On par with the 600s. Not as much bass as expected.

I own a lot of higher end open back headphones for every situation but I didn’t have too many closed back sets that were as good or as neutral as I would have liked. While these aren’t neutral they have a good sound profile that is fun but not overly fun/bassy with highs that are clear but not overly analytical and harsh. The mids are slightly recessed maybe but only because the forward highs and lows. Bass is punchy but pretty tight. One of the most surprising qualities is that these are the most open sounding close backs I have ever used. The sound stage is wide and nicely accurate. I haven’t used the HD820 but I imagine they sound open like this if not $2000 better in that regard. Overall these are good all-rounders. Great for music, great for movies, great for working with, great for games. I haven’t used the sheepskin ear cups yet but I’ll update the review as I have more experience with it against some of my regular headphones. The price is fair if you’re already paying in this range for audio equipment but for the majority of people this is more than you need and more than you should spend for diminishing returns. UPDATE: After having used these for a year for gaming and general use on my pc I can say that in general the audio quality has held up for closed back headphones in this price range. I do have to note that one of the clips that is screwed in over the head cushion has broken causing the head band material to come out and start to fray. I really don’t like this design and wish they had used metal parts here since it seems like this would be a common weak point on the headphones in general. While they are still good if you’re looking for closed back headphones, I think a pair of V-Moda’s would serve people just as well for much less and with a much better cable. You do trade-off a slight bit of mid range and highs for extended but nice bass but overall they would be fun headphones that are good for gaming. If you don’t need a closed back set you can find the Sundara’s for about $100 less and get something I think is generally overall superior in every way except their cable is also horrible and should be replaced immediately. The issue is you’ll need a little more power to get the benefits but the tuning is excellent, the soundstage is good, and so far construction quality looks to be good. If the 177 was priced at $350 I’d still recommend them but that price is what is making this less and less of a recommendation. Also the horrid cable and plug

I love these. Not only are they comfortable, but they are by far the best sounding closed back I have heard. The soundstage is impressive for a closed back, music sounds delicate and fragile when it should and the bass slams you when it is part of the song. The mids are perfect and these cans leave little to be desired. They are easy to drive and these do not have the Beyerdynamic spike in the treble. Who knew Beyerdynamic could make a headphone that did not cause your ears to bleed? LOL. I encourager anyone looking for closed back headphone to put these on your short list. Try them. I would be surprised if you didn't love them as well.

I was so stoked to have these headphones as a high end upgrade from my previous gaming headset and long story short the right piece of very thin plastic has seemingly crumbled out of no where and Im having a hard time finding replacements or a way to get a replacement. devastated! the sound is beautiful but for me being very careful with my new purchase and it to just break from no miss use if very upsetting if anyone has any info for me about what I can do to get this rectified, i would be very appreciative

These headphones are amazing. I bought them around $600 CAD, and for me they're worth that price. I'd tried out several headphones in the ~$200 - $300 range and also enjoyed those, however nothing has come close to how comfortable these are with the leather pads; all day wear is no problem with these. Regarding sound signature, these have a pretty neutral signature at first, but as I continue to use them I find them settling into a slight V-shaped response (more bass and more treble, with less emphasized mid-range). I love them more the longer I listen to them. Whether that is a change in how I'm perceiving it or a change in the headphones themselves I can't say. Across the entire frequency range these sound quite natural to me - not something I can say of the $300 headphones I've tried. Voices (not just music vocals) sound natural to me. The only downside I can think of for these is that they're quite expensive, availability seems somewhat limited (in Canada), and they make it really obvious when something was poorly recorded/mastered. Conversely, well mastered audio shines with these. At the (as of this review) current price of ~$800 CAD, don't even look at these. You can find something comparable for cheaper. On Drop.com they are about $400 USD, and I think that is a great pricepoint for these.

At first I was shocked that these sounded so low res compared to the 1990 pros and even my old M50x. The bass is not clean/tight and the mids are so muffled, sound muddy and overall not worth $670 after tax.

These have bene great for me for being a closed back headphone. Very responsive and punchy base. Two minor issues however. 1. The cord takes FOREVER to loose its "coiled" shape. Its supposed to be a straight cable and it wants to roll in on itself for weeks before it finally stayed straight for me. 2. The bass is WAY WAY better with the leather pads on. It comes with the velour pads installed. Removing those is simple, just twist them and gently pop them off. Getting pads back on however is an absolute nightmare. There's no good way to do it besides struggling. Best of luck on changing the pads. It sadly is a MUST to get the bass performance that these things deserve.

Pretty comfy out of the box. The clamping pressure is average and gets more comfortable once broken-in. The tuning on these is better than the 1770s, but still a bit "boomy". Completely fixable with some perforated ear pads (Brainwavz) to give that air some place to go. Excellent soundstage and imaging for gaming and music (especially rap, hip hop, electronic) at this price point. Only annoyance is the stiff 4-pin mini XLR cable. These are hard to find and had to go through Hart Audio online to get replacement/braided cables.
