Getting Started with Bluetooth Low Energy: Tools and Techniques for Low-Power Networking

No information that you could not find on your own, but great to have everything presented and explained clearly and coherently
There is nothing in this book that you can not find on google, but there is a huge value to having all the information in one place and presented coherently. It starts at the beginning and builds up though the protocol stack, with helpful explanations and examples that give more than just the specs.A deep understanding of BLE 4.0 is a great tool to have in your tool belt, and reading this book is probably the fastest and easiest way to get there.

Great content - Kindle version has errors
As the title of the book says, this is a good place to get started with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). I grabbed the Kindle version of this book because it was much cheaper than the physical copy. As I haven't done anything with BLE or even Classic Bluetooth in the past, this book quickly got me up to speed on the terminology, mechanics, and uses of BLE. I haven't looked at the example code yet (though it was easy to download from the URL provided), so I can't speak for that. The Kindle version of this book seems to be full of typos and missing references, at least when viewing on the Kindle for PC app. As one example, Table 4-6 has a reference to a different section/chapter in every row, but each reference is just blank white space so I don't know where the reference goes.I still give this book high marks for its content. Even with the typos and missing references, I have yet to feel lost or like the errors leave out a significant amount of information. At the very least, the content of this book coincides to what one would expect from a good "Getting Started" O'Reilly book.

Clear, concise, and useful
Clear and concise - it really helps you get your head on straight about BLE. It is a slim volume, but as Kernighan and Richie said in the preface to "The C Programming Language" many years ago "C is not a big language, and it is not well served by a big book." I think the same can be said about BLE. Lots of wheat, little chaff, well written.

A Typically Bad Approach as a Teaching Tool
Warning...this is from the point of view of someone trying to learn BLE, not from an expert! I've now read thru 4 books on BLE. This one isn't particularly useful in its approach. The best analogy to why it fails...it's as if it's trying to teach you a new language by asking you to study the dictionary. People, or at least I, don't learn that way. If learning language...good first steps are mama, dada, and cookie, or perhaps "Hello World!". Next, would be examinations of simple devices, placing their operation in the context of the protocols...followed by another incremental experiment. The guys who write the best tutorial software books understand this well...somehow that approach has yet to make it to BLE.

This book is pretty solid.
This is a great book for those trying to learn BLE communication, and has a little bit about using the BLE API with Android and iOS application development and is a necessary primer for all thing BLE. It wasn't written very long ago and is still very helpful.

Good Book, but Where's The Example Code at GitHub?
This book will get you the detailed information about Bluetooth Low Energy for use as a developer. You will discover all the information you need to understand the basics of BLE and what it does. The only thing keeping me from giving this 5 stars is: The GitHub repository for all the code examples (Android and iOS) contains no code for either Android or iOS. I have no idea why that would be, but I am unable to find the sources. If someone can point me to them, that would be great.

Useful background, but not current
I should have considered the rate at which information on technology goes stale. This book, published in 2014, has lost much relevance in 2020. The introduction to bluetooth is useful but recommendations about development hardware and code examples are out of date.

VERY HELPFUL!
Anyone who is working on engineering BTLE into their products should read this book. It's a great primer for those with some technical knowledge of wireless technologies and software.

Very Introductory
This is a very introductory level text. It explains the basic BLE concepts, and has some example code that just calls into very high level APIs in common Bluetooth libraries. There's nothing here that you couldn't learn for yourself using DuckDuckGo and spending a couple of hours reading info online. If you're looking for the nuts and bolts of the protocol stack, this is not the book for you.Even as an introductory book I don't think its worth the money. As I said above, there's nothing here that you can't find for yourself with just a couple of hours online. Unless you are starting from ground zero, don't spend your money on this. And even if you are starting from ground zero, you're better off looking elsewhere, since you won't learn anything from this book that's useful in practice.

Very useful
This book is very useful for who needs to develop firmware BLE devices as I do. Simple but well written.

This book will not tell you how to write BLE ...
This book will not tell you how to write BLE applications but it will explain a lot about how BLE works.
