To seek, to strive, to find and not to yield.
This is an epic tale of human endurance, well deserved of my heading from Tennyson's mighty poem Ulysses. For those who know part of the story of Stuart's almost unbelievable explorations, have spent time near the line of old telegraph line or had their photo taken by "Stuart's tree" this book is a must. Stuart's story ranks with those of far better known heroes like Scott, Amundsen and Edmund Hillary. Yes, there were other great Australian explorers, and I have read about them, but none matched Stuart's sheer determination and grit, despite his feet of clay. This is by far the best book covering his expeditions and should be on the reading lists of all Australian secondary schools.

Rider in the mirage
This is the best description of Stuart and his epic exploration of Australia and of his toughness and wily character.
