Awesome Paper Cutter!!!
This is an awesome paper cutter!!! I've rarely write reviews, but this definitely deserves it! General (Item Quality/ Shipping): I'm a professional artist and small business owner and find myself in need of a paper cutter quite often, as well as a tool that is very accurate. I decided to upgrade form my smaller Swingline (at least 30 years old and still works perfectly!), to cut larger items. I'm so glad I went with this model and brand again! This classic design and established company has stood the test of time for good reason. They still use the beautiful maple, sturdy base, and high quality metals/ machining. I know this item will last many years as my original did, since they use the same quality and materials. To note, I also appreciated the very quick shipping and professional, original packaging, and would highly recommend this seller. Also, just to note, if you're looking for a GBC brand, they are now called, Swingline, too! Accuracy/ Adjustability: When I was looking for my brand/ model, I was specifically interested in the accuracy and cut quality. I also wanted to learn more about overall adjustability. Just as with my original, this product is very accurate/ on square and provides a clean cut! (I would recommend performing a few test cuts, adjusting the bed blade (to follow) and/ or removing any residue from the blade prior to doing a formal project.) Directly out of the box, the cut was almost right on square, but I do like to be very accurate. As with the original, I was hoping the top ruler could be adjusted, and was happy to find this IS the case with this one as well! There is a little play in the top set screws, so with a framer's square, one can make fine-tuning adjustments to get the ruler-to-bed blade angle right on. Also, to note, the spring tension as well as initial offset (distance from the arm blade to bed blade) can be fully adjusted with standard tools. The spring is is accessed by an easy-to-remove saftey and dust cover. I wish all products were made with good engineering in mind! A note on the guillotine paper cutting method and design: These types of paper cutters can perform highly accurate results! The accuracy is related to two items: (1) The ruler-to-bed blade accuracy and adjustability, and (2) the method of cutting. As noted above, this model is accurate and more importantly, fully adjustable, therefore the first item is sorted out. The other part of achieving a very accurate square cut is with how you pull the blade. There is a sticker on this model that generally explains, but to elaborate, the blade should be pulled leftward with medium to medium-high pressure, most importantly, when starting the cut. A few practice cuts will show you the differences. As long as there is sufficient tension between the cutting blade and bed blade along the entire pull, the cut will be perfectly square. You'll find, when you pull further along in the cut, not as much leftward tension is needed, and when completing, hardly any. The most important part is the initial start; as long as you pull left at the initial part, you should have a very accurate cut, especially with this larger model (the size and weight of the parts help to give more accuracy/ repeatability). The reason for the above technique is due to the mechanics of the design. The cutting blade on the arm is held onto the bed via spring tension. If that spring were tightened so much the arm blade touched the bed blade to start, there would be too much friction and tension to pull the last part of the cut, especially if cutting heavier stock. Instead, there is a slight offset (distance from the arm blade to bed blade) at the start, so the cut can be completed. With the correct leftward tension, the arm blade will always be firmly against the bed blade (which, on this model, can be fully adjusted to be square to the bed), so the cut will also be square. I hope that helps! Overall, YES, this model can give you very accurate results when adjusted/ used correctly!!! That's good news for me and all of you looking for an investment that will deliver what you're looking for. YES! I would highly recommend this product! Thank you and God bless you and your projects!

Perfect!
Iโm and interior designer and often need to cut paper or tag board for my work. This is so handy and works well. Itโs not super heavy, so I can easily carry it around to different work surfaces. The blade is sharp and makes very clean cuts.

Sturdy, well-made, and very handy!
I love this Swingline paper cutter. The hard wood construction and self-sharpening blade were some of the features that sold me on this. I have purchased cheaper paper cutters of various designs over the years, and I have been disappointed by each one. The Swingline does not, however, disappoint. It cleaves a clean, sharp cut through paper and cardstock alike. The guard, a solid metal bar near the cutting edge, does sometimes make a perfectly straight cut on a longer piece of paper challenging. I intend to remove this, as I don't live in a home with small children, and the guard is held in place by a simple Philip's head screw. In its place, I plan to make a heavy wooden block lined in felt or craft foam to protect the paper, as I use the cutter to trim out heat transfer designs and printed prop boxes and labels. I have made good use of this cutter even without this alteration, as it is well constructed and includes both a built in ruler and a quad pattern grid to help with precise placements for each cut. This is a quality paper cutter, and well worth the price.

Perfect Cutter for a Paper Crafter
I tried many paper cutters before I bought this one. I have only had it for a month or so but it is working great. It cuts perfectly, straight and even! The grid is perfect for lining up my papers and is very accurate! I love the weight of the cutter also as it stays put when I use it and doesn't move around. It is a no nonsence cutter which is exactly what I wanted. I have not tried cutting a stack of paper at once but I have cut 4 or 5 sheets at once with no trouble. I am very happy with this cutter and I feel for the price that is is a great buy! I use it for card making and scrapbooking. It is nice looking with the wood top so I have it on top of one of my counters whith the safety lock on at all times. Perfect.

this is decent. not excellent.
I was *hoping* for great without spending $$$$$, and this falls short of my hopes a bit, though perhaps not of my expectations. We need different things from our machines; what I wanted from this trimmer were precise, square cuts. For multiple sheets at a time, hopefully. When I first experimented cutting single sheets and examined them for squareness, I kept getting annoying variance. Even when I put pressure on the cutting arm inward as instructed while cutting, the cut 'flared out' toward the bottom of the cut (as many other reviewers have mentioned). As far as I can tell, this is an issue caused by the paper not lying flat enough against the blade as the cut is made. The pressure of the blade cutting down seems to lift the paper upwards as it progresses down the paper, causing this to happen. Annoyingly, it's hard to hold the paper flattened on the cutting surface toward the bottom because of the metal safety feature that is permanently screwed into place. Great for saving your fingers... not so great for getting straight cuts. I'm working around this problem for now by using a thick plastic pencil board on top of the sheet I'm cutting. When I use this method, I'm able to get perfectly square cuts. This really isn't an efficient solution though, it's definitely more time consuming to set up than I was hoping. I will probably upgrade to this next: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005CX7DUA/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_3?smid=A201ZNAJ10GOMQ&psc=1

Works great, I love it
I love this cutter. Yes, as others have mentioned, you have to press inward as you are cutting to get a nice, clean cut, but this is the case with every cutter I have ever used, throughout all my school years and adult life. It does take up a lot of footprint, so I had to find a place to store it in my art studio when not in use. I kept the box it came in and store it in that, next to a wall, out of the way. It is heavy enough to be reliable and sturdy when using it, but not too heavy to pick up. It's great. My only complaint is that the sticker that the company stuck on the grid surface in the lower right corner has a glue backing that I simply cannot get off! I tried goo-gone and similar products, to no avail, so now I have this sticky spot that I have to cover up with waxed paper so it won't mess up the surface of the paper I am cutting. Dear Swingline -- change your glue for that sticker and use an easy-to-remove sticker!!

No longer a high-quality product
The blades are of very poor quality. They are dull right out of the box, and they are made of some cheap alloy that forms burrs and metal splinters as the blades move past each other. Very disappointed to see a formerly high-quality product now made of cheap materials. For the quality received, the price is nuts.

Perfect
I needed a paper cutter for what I would consider light but frequent use in my office. I wanted one that was fairly compact so I could keep it on my desk, but also wanted something sturdy and well made. I did a fair amount of research reading reviews on paper cutters before deciding to purchase this one, and it is exactly what I wanted. The construction is basically all wood and metal - no flimsy plastic parts. I primarily use it on one or two sheets at a time, but did cut through about 10 at once when I first received it to see how it worked, and it went through those easily. It has a classic look with a solid-wood cutting board and legs, and a no-nonsense cast iron cutting arm with a steel blade screwed into it. It's not the cheapest cutter, but a lot of reviews I read on cheaper cutters said they were flimsy, broke after time, or didn't make straight or clean cuts. I definitely recommend this one, at least for what I am using it for, and I see no reason why it wouldn't hold up for heavier applications.
