Not bad, but not all Britpop tunes.....
This is not a bad 'Britpop' album, it has a good selection of those killer tunes from the mid 90's in there, like catchy pop 'Parklife' by Blur (all the people.. so many people....!) and real top rock tunes 'Riverboat Song' by Ocean Colour Scene. They really capture the excitement of those of years. So if you're after an average nostalgia cd its great!! The only down side to this album is some of the other content which seems to have been stuck on just to fill up the numbers. For example 'Angels' by Robbie Williams (1997- when Britpop was over) and way too many dance tunes! And also a few tracks that were barely in the same decade; 'The Only One I know' and 'Loaded' are late 80's/early 90's! The time period for Britpop seems to have blurred slightly it seems! And another thing- Why has this album missing so many great Oasis and Blur and other classic tunes? (Wonderwall a great example, probably THE Britpop anthem!) People who buy this are missing out on some great tunes! An average collection.

yeah but...
While it's fair to quibble at some of the inclusions, the term 'Britpop' means 'British popular music' so why aren't the Kinks, the Stones et al included? Clearly the intention was to capture the essence of the mid-90s, when guitars and Englishness were admittedly two of the qualities most likely to send an artist spiralling toward the upper echelons of the charts. But it was also a time when the constantly evolving club scene saw the likes of Underworld and the Chems bring the masses together through chemical beats and pounding rhythms. This album was meant to be a nostalgic throwback to the hedonistic, narcissistic but essentially rocking spirit of the mid-90s, and as such it does exactly what it claims to in fine style. To be fair, Robbie Williams was probably after the era had passed, and you'd do just as well to return to your old Shine albums for that instant hit of nostalgia, but this is a worthwile attempt at educating 'the kids' about what the old folks really used to listen to when they made proper songs..

A good starter collection!
Released as a soundtrack to correspond with the documentary of the same name (which was fantastic by the way and well worth buying the DVD, probably more than the CD to established Britpop fans), 'Live Forever' almost lives up to it's name of 'The Best Of Britpop'. All (or almost) of the essential bands from that era (which was captured in the documentary) are here, including Blur, Ash, Shed 7, Ocean Colour Scene, Cast and Supergrass (all represented by one track), it reads like a 'who's who' in fact.Oasis opens the first disc with 'Live Forever' and ends the second with 'Champagne Supernova'. Other anthems include 'Beautiful Ones' by Suede and 'Common People' by Pulp. There are a few tracks which I don't feel really belong here (Robbie Williams?... but 'Angels' is a good song nevertheless), but if your looking for a CD to introduce someone to the genre, or if you yourself are just discovering Britpop - you've found a good starting place with this two disc set.'Live Forever' will offer nothing particularly new to anyone who is already familiar with the Britpop era - but is an excellent snapshot of a musical era which produced some quality tunes.

sound of an era
this is a banging cd, good tunes, happy memories, wacked out listening to t'grass and those lovely scallies oasis. not so sure about ash, but to be fair they were only 17 at the time so did a good job for their age and its better than hanging around drinking buckie and fighting. as liam g said come on! underworld, wicked too, not keen on the ravy davy stuff but mega mega white thing lager lager lager, thats what it was like in those days, you dont need a documnetary just listen to it.

Great collection of 90's Brit Pop!
This cd took a long time to get to me, but it was worth the wait. The cd and sleeve is in great condition, considering it was supposed to be 'used'. Now when the moment strikes me, I can turn on the music from my days of youth!

Great songs but not all Britpop.
39 songs. All are really great to listen to. The double disk set loses one star though because so many of the songs are not from the Britpop genre.Paul Weller, Morrissey? They are 80's acts even if the song came out in the 90s.Garbage? They are an American band.Robbie Williams??? Again great but not really Britpop.Radiohead? NopeChemical Brothers? Republica? Am I wrong? They aren't Britpop either. Prodigy? Underworld?Where is The Farm? Inspiral Carpets?I love all the songs but I was really hoping for the best of Britpop as it advertised.Alright, I digress. Now I see on the back of the CD that this is music from and inspired by the documentary Live Forever. Well that explains the track selections I guess.
