Sturdy, easy to install, and somewhat "normal looking"
I recently had hip replacement surgery, so a toilet seat riser was a must. This one installs easily with the included bolts, although I had a friend pick up some white rubber washers at Home Depot for extra security. I live in a small apartment with only one bathroom, so I wanted something that wouldn't be wierd for guests to use. As you put this on the bowl first, then install a regular toilet seat on top of the riser, this was just the ticket for me.Caveat: This will probably not be right for people who are very tall, or overweight (especially after hip or knee surgery). I am 5'9" and it is just high enough for me to maintain the so-called "Total Hip Precaution" of maintaining a hip hight higher than the knee when sitting. Also, if you are having trouble getting up from chairs or have balance issues, the handles may not be high enough for you. Someone mad a comment about having difficulty wiping on this seat; I can see how this might be an issue if you are not particularly slight. The actual riser part is between 3.5" and 4" so if you are petite, or just need a little bit of a lift due to arthritis, etc. this could be a good choice for you. Anyone tall, heavy, weak, balance-challanged and/or post surgical would probably be better off with a higher riser and/or something with a frame that rests on the floor.I'm in my forties, was a dancer, and am still lean and in pretty good shape, so this has worked out fine for me, and suited my aesthetic wishes nicely. As another commenter mentioned, this mount will not work with some toilet seats - the bolt on mine was attached to the seat, so I had to swap it out for one with removeable bolts (the kind with the little flaps that snap on to cover the bolts. Overall, I am very please with this purchase.

One size does not all toilets
I got this for my father while he was convalescing from back surgery. It fit our toilet (at my house) fine, but when he was well enough to return to his house it did not fit his toilet without modification. Luckily one of his friends is a very handy kind of guy and he took care of attaching it so that it was safe and sturdy for my dad. Before we bought this we had the seat that looks more like a walker that fits over the top of a toilet, but my dad did not like that one. He found it less sturdy and the drop from where he sat to the water in the bowl was too far. splashing would occur. Being able to go to the restroom by oneself is a very happy thing both for the patient and the caregiver. This seat made that possible. I am happy we purchased it. Just know you may need someone with some tools and plumbing expertise to get a good solid fit.

ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE
I cannot believe how excellent this riser is! It is so much easier to sit down and stand up from my toilet now. What a game changer this is and why did I wait so long to get one? I guess because I didn't know such things existed. DOH!Installation was easy but was easiest to use a screwdriver on top and hold the wing-nut in place from below. Keep tightening and tightening until you can no longer tighten. I thought at one point something was going to break but that never happened. It must be very tight or it will wiggle a little and that is no good.I can honestly say this riser enhanced my life in a big way and I mean that sincerely. Oh, what a wonderful thing!

Bad Choice
This raised toilet seat has some design errors. A short time after installing it, we had to tighten the bolts again because it was slipping. Then we started noticing an odor. When we removed the seat, we found that it was leaking, and urine was pooled underneath the edges. It was so bad that we had to toss the seat. We used it less than two weeks. It appeared to fit well, but it did not seal well. I would not buy this product again.

Use epoxy sealant or you'll regret it
Purchased this for a family member who broke their hip. It works great, but it doesn't seal to the top of the toilet so "liquid" gets trapped underneath it and smells like a dead animal. I had to add some epoxy to resolve that problem. If it had either a barrier that prevented this or came with a sealant of some sort it would have been a lot better.

My grandmother loves her new toilet seat!
This product cost a little more than some of the other seat risers but is well worth the extra money. It bolts down, which is the primary reason I chose it. Some of the cheaper models simply clamp or set on the toilet, allowing the possibility of splipping or falling off. Not this one. It becomes an integral part of the toilet. Also, my grandmother had a hand painted toilet seat that she loved and we were able to use it on top of this product. The bathroom still looks like a private bathroom instead of a hospital. Finally, she didn't have a lot of room between the wall and the toilet, so the integrated handles didn't interfere with the wall like some of the metal handles would. My grandmother loves it, therefore I do too! This is a great product.

Wanted to like it
After for searching the many versions of this type of product I settled on this to help my mother in law for use following surgery. I liked the idea that you could attach a lid and that it had handles. A few issues though; Most new toilet seats are "quick release" where they have special bolts that allow the seat to be quickly remove for cleaning. These types of seats are not compatible with this elevated device. You will need an old fashion toilet seat that you can use standard bolts (which they ship longer ones with this device). So, once I purchased a new (old fashion) seat, that problem was solved. However, the fact that this elevation device cannot be quickly or easily remove makes cleaning difficult. In the end we found that we just couldn't keep this whole setup clean enough and ended up throwing it out. Will look for a different model that allows for quick release or lifts up for cleaning.
