I had a problem with my left shifter and that's cause I chose to use a cheap shift cable which made me think I needed a new shifter. What I did was lubricate the shifter and try to get as much gunk out of it and then re-lubricate it. Once I pull on the new Shimano road shift cable I immediately thought of the quote "You get what you pay for!" Duh!, Sure we've heard it all before, still our false pride gets in the way and I make mistakes, after all I'm only human, right? Well, gotta love the cable housing, very easy to cut and now my shifter works great, which makes me a very happy camper. All in well in Brooklyn again, I can go out and enjoy some of this great weather we're having now.

I had issues with my Crank Brothers Joplin seatpost not going up or down. The bike mechanic said it's probably because there was debris in the line. Upon closer inspection, the housing had been smashed in a few spots and had a small cut in another, so definitely the whole cable system needed to be replaced. The job was easy: I just unscrewed the joystiq from the old cable using a hex wrench, then slid it off of the cable. Next, I threaded the cable through the joystiq and handlebar mount and also through the cable housing. Once I measured a good length to reach the seat in its full position, I backed out the cable so that I could use cable cutters to crop the housing to a good length. I put the housing into a bracket that holds it in place, so the second housing end/cap was unnecessary. I measured the cable to spec based on the dropper post manual, and cut it also with a cable cutter. Put a little grease on the cable. I messed up by having it tensioned before cutting the end and it unwound the fibers a bit on the end, but thanks to the cable end it is not a messy job. The post works great now and is smooth again with a good level of sensitivity from the joystiq. I read the specs for the Joplin dropper post and it said it uses a basic shift cable for operation, so that's why I decided to go with this set. It even includes an extra/second cable, which is nice if you accidentally botch a job or something happens to the cable along the way. In my opinion the set would make more sense to have longer housing, though, as the cables are really long and there is no way that the housing can support two full length cables. I have given the product a 4 star instead of 5 star because of this fact. At either rate, I saved some money in a repair and experienced the zen of maintaining my own baby: my beautiful mountain bike! As a side note: there is an engraved "Shimano" logo on the end of the housing that has a shiny polished steel appearance. I made sure to keep this on the end that would be closest to me so I could take pride in having the best of brands and the quality job that I did. Recently I needed to replace the rear derailleur cable housing and cable on my full suspension mountain bike, I ordered this kit and the Jagwire kit. They were essentially identical kits, but I liked the Shimano housing and cable better for its quality and how easily the cable moved through the housing. It was also less than half the price of the other. By coincidence the housing was the perfect length and I didn't need to cut it. It's important to note that though the box says Road cables, the ends on the cables are for flat bar shifters such as those on mountain bikes and hybrid bikes.

This was a perfect fit for my needs and I am so very happy with with it.

These are true Shimano Cables with the SIS Logo imprinted on the housing tube. I purchased this as a generic replacement for rear derailleur shifter. Everything that is needed for perfect, quick and easy installation is included. Although I only have one shifter (rear), the cables are perfect. Shimano's website offers excellent replacement instructions. Replacement of my shifter cable was a breeze at about 1 hour total for the job, which also included cleaning and lubricating. The very low cost of this Shimano cable set make this a superb value. NOTE: I could not verify if the cables are PTFE coated or not and Shimano's packaging does not indicate either way. As a precaution, I covered the entire cable with ParkTools recommended bike grease as I was feeding it into the housing. This step takes an extra 5 minutes, well worth it.
