The Mythology of Supernatural: The Signs and Symbols Behind the Popular TV Show

Any book that is about the fantastic Supernatural show, I just have to buy. This book did not disappoint. The author wrote, in my opinion, in depth descriptions of the mythology. I am like any other fan and wonder about every myth or lore within the show and this book helped answer my questions. I really hope that someone of the show endorses this book because this author clearly researched the show and the myths. This book is a good addition to a Supernatural fan's collection!

I have recently began to appreciate the dark humor that is Supernatural, a series by Erik Kripke. As my adoration grows and I have viewed the episodes many times I decided to explore other media sources to discover as much as I can. I love how this book gives explanations that don't require scholarly knowledge to understand. Written for the layman, with insight and clear examples to further illustrate his points, this book is a winner hands down. I would recommend it to anyone that enjoys the show.

Very informative and interesting...if you like the supernatural natural world this is a good book to read.

Note:Book Review Written January 5, 2020 The Mythology of Supernatural : The Signs and Symbols Behind the Popular TV Show, By Nathan Robert Brown Kindle Edition (282 Pages) This book was written as a scholarly effort to identify the mythologies and folklore behind that used to create various monsters,, demons, angels events, and other elements present in the cable television series Supernatural. While it It is possible to read and enjoy its content without watching the series, I really don't know why you would want to. I selected this book because of an interest in mythology and folklore, which is most likely the reason I am a fan of the Supernatural series. Ever since human beings took their first steps into the dark and frightening realms of existence they have resorted to mythologies (stories) to help themselves understand and cope with the unknown. The study of these myths is fascinating because it not only tells us a great deal about our ancient ancestors, but also about ourselves. By the same token Supernatural isn’t just a show that was developed by using mythology; it is mythology. The show is not just based on mythological figures and events; it is a new kind of myth, all its own. The stories of Supernatural’s heroes are new manifestations of age-old myths, tales that have existed since the dawn of humankind. They are not just repeating the old lore or mythical archetypes, but are unique adaptations. Further, the show has developed such a broad scope that there are probably few traditional myths in existence that cannot be compared to some figure, event, relationship, or element of Supernatural. Among the subjects discussed in this book include: weapons used against monsters and evil entities; angel and demon lore; demonic possession and exorcism; heaven and hell; and much more. The author describes how the subjects are presented in the television series and than compares it to the ancient mythology and/or lore. The result is an interesting and entertaining read. Supernatural fans will love this book, while students of mythology may find it interesting, at least I did.

I am really loving this book. I'm almost finished with it and I am very satisfied. its great because if you don't want to read it straight through you can jump around section to section and find what you need. Also because of that fact its good for the people that cant focus on one topic for long. it looks into the origin of characters such as Lilith, crowely, castiel, urial and many more. It dosent shy away from an origin just because it conflicts with supernatural.

Got this for my boyfriend, a huge Supernatural fan, for Christmas this past year and he loved it. He loves all the symbols and stuff in the show and thinks it's a really cool book! I flipped through it myself and it looks like it goes pretty in-depth with explaining it all. Definitely recommend for fans of the show or mythology in general.

This book is amazing. Its packed with tons of information about the lore in the tv show Supernatural. Brown goes into the real myhs the boys chase after. He discusses where the different myths derive from and how the tv showsgets somethings riht and somehings wrong. I am an avid Supernatural fan and have been since the beginning. This book is one of the better lore of Supernatural books I have read.

As a long-time fan of the show, I've read a number of the Supernatural novels by various authors and was largely disappointed. None seemed to add any critical - or even interesting - dimension to the series, and some were horrendous reads. "The Mythology of Supernatural" is different. First off, it's non-fiction. Nathan Robert Brown is a bona-fide mythologist who combines his knowledge of the Supernatural series with a knowledge of Hebrew, Christian, Celtic and even Sumerian mythology, as well as folklore, to give fans a deeper understanding, hence deeper enjoyment, of the mythology involved in the shows. His writing is often scholarly, yet always presented in an enjoyable fashion. I look forward now to re-watching episodes with more information on the signs, symbols, and weapons used in the show. Plus, if you read the book, you'll learn how to make your own holy water (you know, just in case...).

At first I was looking for a book that had info behind the symbols they use in the show. whether or not they get them right, or if they are just using symbols they gleamed from horror movies and the like, but the book had so much more. they didn't have the symbols or sigils in it, Instead they had the information behind the items used, the symbols, the names of the demons and angels. it is an amazing book, and so far I am loving it, I just hope that as the show keeps growing in the seasons, the writer brings out a volume 2 with more info about more angels, more demons and more info.

Eine super Ergänzung, wenn man Supernatural von Anfang an sieht. Logischerweise sollte man gut Englisch können und sogar ein Wörterbuch haben....meine Tochter übersetzt es gerade (aus Spaß..😂)! Lieferung dauert etwas länger, aber okay! Ich bin begeistert!!!
