If anyone can..
After a friend dropped my Sony DSC-W80 on the floor, it took me ages to find a replacement. After weeks of investigative work, trials, I chose the Canon IXUS 80 IS (image stabilisation). In the running were more expensive(!) cameras from Sony, Panasonic and Nikon. The order was placed with Amazon, included free delivery and turned up quicker than I expected.I've now played with the 80 IS for a few days now and I can report that the battery life is very good (probably a match for the Sony). The picture quality on any MP setting is excellent. I can't tell if there is any purple fringing with this camera (even with zoom) at all and even if you keep the picutres at max 8MP with minimal zoom you can easily edit out and still retain near perfect pictures anyway.I'd say this camera is better than the Sony (just) for auto work, as the Sony had loads of manual settings. With the Canon you have to find them to use them. For those that do party shots, pub shots, night shots - this is one excellent camera. Even in complete darkness shots you can prime the target by depressing the shoot button slightly (a redish light will appear to allow the auto focus to work) - then simply despress the button all the way to take the shot. Really impressive and much better than the Sony. For me shutter times day or night - - are really important. I like to be able to power up, aim at my target and depress the shutter button. Picure taken. If I'm honest I couldn't rely on the Sony for this - - but I am with the Canon.Of course you could spend a few more pounds and get a 10mp or 14.7mp panny DMC150 camera but for now - for all round abilty this is hard to beat. And it's cheap as chips and for Canon to be selling them at this price it's a steal.

Great Camera-while it lasts
I really loved this camera which I only used as a snapshot camera when out on my bike or if I didn't fancy carrying anything larger around. However, after 13 months of infrequent use it developed a fault which shows a blue vertical line down the centre of the screen. This line also appears in the actual photograph. I contacted Canon service and was told to send it to their authorised repair centre. I obtained an estimate for repair of £95 to service it. I then asked Canon if they would offer a goodwill payment towards repair as it was only just out of warranty and little used at that. This is their reply:-Thank you for contacting Canon.I am sorry to hear you are having problems with your Canon camera. We apologise for the inconvenience. In response to your inquiry whether Canon can,as a goodwill gesture, to help you pay for your camera repair (taking into consideration that your camera is 13 months old and under no warranty any more), I do regret to infom you that in this case all inspections and repairs of your camera are subject to fees, set by our Authorized repair facilities:I am not impressed! I really wanted to buy the Ixus100is as a replacement and later on replace my Canon EOS600 with a Canon DSLR but am not happy with the customer service so will have to think long and hard before stumping up more hard earned cash.So 5 stars because when it worked it was excellent. But zero stars for longevity and customer service.UPDATEAfter e-mailing Canon to say I was not happy with their response as above, they offered to repair it subject to condition. They must have been happy with it as they did repair it FOC and returned it in 8 days. Excellent !

Nearly perfect
This is a great camera. It's very well built. The quality of the photos is excellent. The battery life is very good. I've had this for a few years and have never experienced any faults. The only downside is that the flash isn't great - It doesn't adjust the level of flash very well depending on the light in the room, so sometime you will have a really bright flash when it only needs a light one, resulting in an overly bright photo. I had the preceding model before this one and that model adjusted the flash perfectly, so it's a real shame this model has the issue. But other than that, it's great!

I really do love this little camera
I really do love this little camera. I gave up on SLR format when going digital and no longer print anything. This is my second digital camera, the first being the Canon PowerShot A80. It was a great camera but built like a brick. This one is so small, light and neat. Slips in your pocket like a mobile phone. Great for when I am out on the bike. Results are impressive - sharp focus, lifelike colour and easy to use on the auto setting. I particularly value the viewfinder as all LCD screens are difficult to see in very bright sunshine. My only criticism is the navigation of on-screen menus takes some getting used to, even if you are a regular Canon user.

Best camera I'v ever had or likely ever have.
First off let me say Iv had this camera for years now.Its been awesome, Now looking a fair bit worn but thats understandable from the amount i'v dropped it when I went travelling around the world. Its been wet, shaken, thumped and dropped still survives as well as i bought it. Worked in the extreme cold up to a point in the extreme cold of Siberia and the extreme warm of australia. It was so easy to use just pull out of my pocket and within a second or two the photo was taken.I will never buy another camera other than a canon now, Although im still in no rush to get one.

highly recommended!!
I bought this from lizardbooks fulfilled by amazon - the camera arrived in good time and was exactly as described in the advert - although secondhand, this camera is virtually as new - I can honestly fail to find any deficiency cosmetically or otherwise - what a great buy !!! they even supplied me with a free spare battery - this camera was a replacement for my canon A1200 which served me well - the 80is has a more upmarket feel to it and is a pleasure to use -

super shots
As a camera collector I must have enough to start a museum but I don't bother with them now I have this little beauty. It does everything it says on the tin - and then some. It's great to have the facility to be creative with a compact and the results speak for themselves. My only 'gripe' is that there isn't a hard copy of the manual so I've had to print out the relevant pages from the accompanying CD Rom but I can live with that.
