An Important Book
The Sermon on the Mount is an incredible passage of Scripture that captures much attention. As a result, many resources have been generated about it. Repackaged and republished, "Jesus's Sermon on the Mount" by D.A. Carson finds itself among the best.Simply put, the book is an exposition of Matthew 5-10, focusing on the Sermon on the Mount in part one and then focusing on Jesus Christ's interaction and confrontation with the world in part two. Carson has done a masterful job at highlighting the text and working his way through section by section. His style is one that is in-depth without overwhelming, combined with clarity. As a result, this book is readable for everyone, not just a pastor or seminarian. The passages are profound on their own merit, but D.A. Carson helps guide readers and opens up understanding so that readers make meaningful interpretations and practical applications. In short, this is an incredible book that earns its space on the bookshelf. However, the best recommendation for anyone reading it is to grab their favorite Bible marking pens and read this book with an open Bible, taking lots of notes. One will be rewarded for this effort.Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book from the publisher at no cost to me for the purposes of review. However, my review was not influenced in any way by the author, publisher, or any other person associated with this book and it is the direct result of my reading of it.

A bit heady
My husband is doing this as a study with a friend. They both fell it was written for seminary students, but though it takes extra thought, they are getting a lot out of it.

Very convicting in a good way
as familiar I am with the sermon on the mount, and as many sermons as I have heard on it, this book had so many convicting concepts and challenging thoughts. I highly recommend it, especially if you have become jaded with such an amazing passage

In Keeping With Carson's Craftsmanship
I almost always find D.A. Carson's work among the best on any topic. This is no exception to that rule. An added bonus is that this book is a little easier to read and digect than some of Carson's work.

Never Wrong With DA Carson
DA Carson is a top shelf exegete. His commentary on John is the best I have in my library. Just purchased the Sermon on the Mount for an upcoming series and it’s just as solid. Totally a great blend of exegetical and practical insights.

Nuanced, yet simple.
Carson has a way of bringing common sense exegesis to what seems to be a familiar text. Through his lucid teaching, the S on the M becomes more nuanced. What makes this a more thorough study than some, is that Carson deals with the S on the M (Matt.5-7) and the aftermath of this teaching on its first listeners (8-10). I just finished this, and I am sending it as a gift. If you want to have a better grasp of the practicalities of Jesus' S on the M, get this book.

Disappointed
I wasn’t satisfied at all with this book. Is long drawn out and boring. He references another writer so much that half way through this read I stopped (probably won’t finish) and started on the author who he referenced. The book seems repetitive or more like if it was a lecture it would be a bunch of rambling. The other reviews spoke highly of this book which is why I bought it. Get it yourself and if you’re as disappointed as I am find a local bookstore and trade it in

Love this book!
Awesome book! I have been enjoying the insight and knowledge of D.A. Carson. His instruction and teaching has open my eyes to some new ways to see this Scripture. I have a hard time putting the book down. This book has also given me time to take notes and highlight my Bible.

Excellent
I have found this an invaluable help in my current Sermon series (working through Matthew's Gospel). Carson clearly brings out the depth of truth in what Jesus purpose is - to tell those listening that he is God, ask them to repent and believe, and to point out that it is through faith in Christ alone that eternal life will be found. He doesn't get hung up in the life stories, or on the usual matters we get preached to from this passage (about 'authority'), but homes in on the fundamental heart of Jesus teaching. If you are preaching Matthew, then get it. If you wish to understand this section of the Gospel better for your own study and prayer, then get it.If you don't know the Lord Jesus Christ is the sole Saviour, then get it.

Beautifully written
DA Carson makes an excelllent study about the sermon on the mount, with proper exegesis and at the same time using a language that is accesible for those that are not in the academic sphere. He also uses a very practically approach that quickly challenges the reader to examine himself and to fix his hope in Jesus and Scritpure, every christian needs to study the sermon of the mount and this is a good companion book to do it properly.
