Signpainters delight!
You'll be lettering everything in no time once you pick this set up! Always happy with Mack brushes and these are no different. Top quality quills, worth every penny. Bought this set of brushes and "Brush Lettering: step by step" by Bobbie Gray and have been honing my lettering skills ever since. Great set of brushes!

The attached photo wasn't nearly the best of today's efforts
I am brand new to lettering but not brushes. I studied art at the school of visual arts but lettering is a whole new game. I was actually looking to buy a more expensive brush but wanted to experiment with sizes so after 2 weeks of research I just couldn't pass up this deal. Well I went out today with my brand spanking new brushes and a half baked idea of how I might paint letters and they completely exceeded my expectations. The attached photo wasn't nearly the best of today's efforts .. only the one I stopped to take a photo of and from zero knowledge to this was about 45 minutes including taking out materials and getting my substrate ready.Considering brushes usually need a break in period .. I am pretty excited about tomorrows practice session. They performed much sweeter after say 45 minutes than when I first started and yes I removed the sizing before hand. Toward the end of say 1.5 hours they were delicious. These have a wonderfully nice snap to them and I found a fairly vertical hold to work best for me. I gave it a full 4 stars but would have went 4 and a half for the action of the brush in use, its pretty sexy, but I was a little concerned that they didn't seem to hold a ton of paint. I have to try a natural fiber brush to see if they hold more paint and double check my reducer to paint ratio to see if I can get longer draws. If a squirrel hair doesn't give me a longer draw or doesn't give me the same nice feel I will be back to give this 5 stars. Pretty sweet at double the cost for the set easy.Edited to add starBeen a few months since I bought these and have since bought a 179 because .. well its supposed to be awesome. And it is but ... every time I sit down to practice .. I grab one of these. They hold a fair amount of paint but most importantly the snap and ability to get a nice chisel edge make them more fun to use than my more expensive brush. The are really wonderful

Great Brushes, especially for the price.
I like my traditional grey squirrel quills as much as the next painter, but these brushes are really wonderful for the price. They can give you just as nice chiseled edges and pull very nicely. I have and would recommend these brushes to any beginner, novice or experienced painters.

Hottods
My guys stripping brushes were wearing out. Bought this set for him. He said they are exactly what he uses and needs.

Not great on smooth surfaces
Nice brush for semi-smooth surfaces like painted wood, has a spring to it but the grey squirrel hair is better for smooth surfaces like glass. With a traditional squirrel hair brush you'll get a much longer stroke without the flair out.
