Roger Corman's "I Am Legend"
Oh the 1950's, back when all your horror and science fiction movies had to be allegories about the threat of nuclear annihilation and the hubris of man. How radiation can cause people and things to turn into horrific monstrosities that threaten the world instead of making them die a slow painful death. Well this movie from our good old friend Roger Corman is the epitome of all that which made the 50's so goofy. We got seven people, including an old gold prospector and his donkey because why not, who come together after a nuclear holocaust and take refuge in a small house in the center of a mountainous area free from the fallout. There they have to survive both the threat of hideous mutant creatures and themselves. Do I really need to say more? The characters were your stereotypical archetypes, but the acting overall was actually ok and I really felt for some of them, including the donkey who I feel deserved more screen time. The movie drags quite a bit in the beginning and we don't really see the monster til near the end. There were moments that surprised me that they got away with in spite of 50's standards, such as attempted rape and someone tossing a body down a cliff in full detail, of course it was a dummy body and it was hilarious but still. And of course there's the monster...oh my God! I mean I knew what I was going into when I looked at the poster but...you gotta be kidding me. That is one of the goofiest looking monsters I've ever seen! The Robot Monster looks better than this thing...even the monster on the poster looks better than this thing and it's supposed to be the same thing! I don't think anyone back in 1955 thought that thing was scary. Also it's weakness is clean water, yup it's as wimpy as those aliens from Signs. If we had more time, maybe we would have found out it can't open wooden doors. This is an unintentionally goofy movie that I somewhat had fun with. It's a product of its time and a very cheesy sci-fi horror movie that you might enjoy.

Corman, Manix, space drapes and A Three Eyed, Two Horned, Purple People Eater
Early Roger Corman entry into drive-in movie camp-crap. The question that I have is where did Rodger get those drapes. The ones that Manix keeps looking through? They are not ordinary drapes - they look like Drapes Of The Future. Apparently the budget was so low that Roger couldn't afford a window. So he used weird drapes to create a pretend window. The excellent sleep inducing qualities of this film were almost ruined when a pretty actress started screaming about a slow walking, silly looking Three-Eyed-Two-Horned-Purple-People-Eater near the end of the film. The people-eater looks like what you might get if the Creature from the Black Lagoon took a crap - a big steamy one. (Spoiler Alert) The People-Eater is killed by a M. Night Shyamalan Gimmick-A-Tron. In case your wondering, DTWE is not a good movie but then it was never meant to be a good movie.

Childhood memories.
As a kid I saw this movie in the theater when it first came out. Not a classic by any measure, but in those days I enjoyed it. A bit of trivia. I was in Big Bear California playing an arcade game and the man that played the girls father, Paul Birch, was playing the arcade machine next to me. He also played one of the guys pulverized by a Martian ray in War of the Worlds.

Quarantined in a House in an Apocalyptic World
Perfect for right now. Free on Prime. Lines you can use around the house right now. Just be kind to one another folks. Remember Rod Serling. Enjoy and have a laugh. We're better than this, I trust.

A real treat with Adele Jergens, tough-talking, plump-cheeked peroxide blonde
This movie was lots of fun. What a treat to see Adele and a few of her burlesque moves. The cast did a great job on making the tension real in a lightly dramatic story. There were a few twists along the way, well worth a watch to the end!

Cordialement,BG

Buyer beware it's a DVD-R
Thought I was buying a genuine factory pressed DVD but received a cheap DVD-R which are notorious for poor performance and short shelf life. The product was not sealed but was in a closed plastic sleeve. Very poor. This is the sort of product you expect from eBay but not from Amazon.Don't touch with the proverbial barge pole.Hope this is useful.
