beautiful simple compass. responds fast
i love this thing. very heavily made case, real brass, real glass lens, and moves quickly and easily. i also have the tiny water-damped marbles pocket compass and this thing feels so much better (cheaper too!). if you want a simple properly designed and built hiking compass, tgis thing is great. i plan to use it on my small sailboat to navigate around small lakes and bays where serious mapping and sighting is not involved. we’ll see how well it does with water resistance!

I ordered 2 of these Marble Knives 223 Large Pocket ...
I ordered 2 of these Marble Knives 223 Large Pocket Compasses. 1 arrived with the dial tilted and immobile--useless. The other arrived apparently intact, however, rather than pointing north, the dial bounces endlessly--useless! Look elsewhere. These things are junk.

Their handy smaller compass is sturdy and accurate
I've been a fan of Marble's products, knives and compasses, for years. Their handy smaller compass is sturdy and accurate, and can be pinned to a jacket. This compass is about twice the size, and very smooth and steady. It's the right size for pocket carry when hiking, scouting, and camping. It will be getting a lot of use when warmer weather gets here.

Neat-o
Cool little compasses with a classic feel and look. They bounce a bit and takes a moment to settle on N but is fairly accurate and consistent.

A classic and a value!
I LOVE this compass. It fits in the palm of my hand and has a nice weight to it. It is very well made and seems accurate. Very good quality for the price.

Good, Durable Compass
This compass is very durable, with a beefy brass case, and should be adequate for most uses. Now, I'm not a professional explorer that must rely on an extremely expensive compass, but these Marble compasses seem to be a lot like those used by special operations groups during WWII and it doesn't seem like that much has changed, by way of basic directional needs anyway. I don't plan on calling for placement of SCUD missiles or anything approaching the coordinated directional capabilities of any such action. But, I did choose this compass for my possible SHTF preparations and unless someone with far more knowledge than me (and I'm not a complete amateur) can give me a reason why this may not be a good choice, I'm sticking with it. Now, I would've been much happier if Marbles was still the fine American company of old, but I couldn't find anything to compare with the simplicity, durable materials and low cost of this compass. It is the one recommended by the classic, "Staying Alive in the Woods", and it still seems like a good (maybe not THE best) choice for serious use today. Plus, shipping was great.

Will order another
It was non-functional. Sent back. Will order another. Carried one for years, great compass. Disappointed with myself when I misplaced it somewhere.

How to replace broken glass face
Really nice thing to carry in your pocket. Amazon sold it to me with the packet already opened andth glass face broken. How to fix it: 38mm flat watch face glass, often called crystal or sapphire glass.
