Screws?!! We don't need no stinkin' screws!
I just want to complain about the missing screws as well. It's fine that it doesn't contain the screws to mount the base to the roof, but the screws that mount the cap to the base would have made some kind of sense....I think. And they're not the same length. Also, note that with this design you'll get birds nest debris in the top of your fridge when the little birdies build their happy homes on the screen while enjoying the abundant cool shade that the cap so generously provides, just for them and their little ones. Ask me how I know. So if you don't feel like removing the entire thing every so often and vacuuming the twigs and feathers and other kinds of stuff from out of your fridge coils and fins, then you'll need to add some additional screen to this "kit".And find some 2" stainless #8 screws to mount the cap to the base.

Great upgrade or replacement! Bought it twice!
I installed this on our old 1977 Dodge Tioga. It was a great fit once we reopened up the roof to allow installation of this cap. It allowed us to use the Dometic on gas and electric power. Simple, easy to install if you have an opening. Even if you don't the install was pretty straightforward.Fast forward about 5 years now and another RV and I'm replacing this old metal cap vent with leaks with the same vent kit! It takes longer to get the old one off and the roof cleaned up than it takes to install the new one. Only one caution for folks: make sure you either use screws that have rubber grommets or put a dab of silicone in the top screw holes to keep water from trying to get in. The screw openings are small but they are open at the top. I usually put the silicone in first (small amount) then put the screw in so I can unscrew them if needed.INSTALL UPDATE: after reading all the comments about the screening, I opted to modify the vent by adding more screening around the top of the vent base using the same hardware cloth so that the cover presses down on it and seals out any possible squatters.Happy, safe and Healty RV'ing All!Daniel "the Vintage RV'er"

Overpriced, poorly designed and poorly made.
I chose this to replace the old square Dometic cap which I broke by driving under a tree. I would have thought that Dometic would have made this fit the existing base, the screw holes are just about half an inch off the locations of the original design. So you have to replace the base as well. Apart from that, as other reviewers have noted, the insect guard mesh is too course, about one quarter of an inch mesh, so you have to add regular aluminum screen material to keep out smaller bugs. And the quality of plastic is poor, so it is not very robust, and the base is somewhat deformed, it is not square. And finally, it does not come with any screws, not even screws to attach the cap to the base. So all in all, this is a real pain to fix.

Nice replacement.
I was hoping the top piece would fit over and screw onto the old Dometic base but it didn't. I took the old one completely off and put this new one on using lap sealant and it worked nicely. I don't think this came with the screws to screw the top piece to the bottom piece so I had to get screws for it. There's a chance it did come with the screws and I just lost them.

Be aware it has no hardware
I missed in the reading that it does not come with buytl tape or screws so you will need that. But still a good product for the price!

If you think you need one you probably do - good quality item.
Removed the old vent from my camper roof and installed this one. I made sure I also purchased the press on sealing tape and screws and a tube of the self leveling caulk. I added a layer of wire mesh window screen above the screening provided in the vent. The existing screen holes are large enough to allow insects (especially smaller bees) to get in. That was the problem the previous owner experienced and he broke apart the old vent rather than remove it properly. Anyway, this item shipped and arrived fast. Was exactly as described and a perfect fit. The self leveling caulking is amazing - works like a charm.
