Patches of Godlight: Father Tim's Favorite Quotes (Mitford Years)

Great thoughts from a wonderful character.
I loved the book and all the quotes and annotations. The only trouble is, although neatly written, it was difficult for me to read the handwritten material. With better vision, it probably wouldn't be hard. Father Tim is a loving, wonderful Christian man and having this insight into his thoughts was beautiful.

Wonderfully edifying collection
I love this uplifting, thought-provoking, inspiring collection. It's 100% edifying, whether you read page after page or just glimpse at a snippet here and there. And the format is lovely ~ the handwritten notes, the typed pages replete with chuckle-producing typos, and the varied layout are a delight to the eye. Highly recommend.

Simple, Everyday, Easy to follow Advice
By the time Jan Karon published Patches of Godlight: Father Tim's Favorite Quotes (Mitford Years) we were already a 'MEMBER OF HIS FAMILY" felt we knew him in a very personal way, having sat his table, in our minds. It's almost as if we're having morning devotion with this Godly man. So, thanks, Karon. We have enjoyed our visits to Mitford, even in the favorite quotes. Maybe that should be "especially" in his quotes.

Glean on o' men of God and send your choice findings back to me.
This is not a story book but a book of quotes from other Scholars, those who have lived their life with Jesus Christ as their Lord and have found some very choice words from the Bible and from the lives of other deeply Spiritual men and women. I have found so many of them to become words to encourage me. It is as if these quotes are nuggets of gold, mined deeply from life's tragedy's and experiences. I find them very wonderful and they touch my heart; many finding a home there.

Very Dissatisfied. Illegible on Kindle
I have LOVED all of Jan Karon's novels about Father Tim & Mitford except this one. It is Father Tim's writings from his journal. It sounds lovely but unfortunately it is "printed" in handwriting/ cursive. It is not legible on my Kindle Paperwhite.

Uplifting
I've had this book for awhile and love it. You can just pick it up, open to any page and enjoy it. My mother-in-law was visiting in the summer and read some of it and loved. We bought her one for Christmas and is enjoying the entire book.

A COLLECTION OF INSIGHT AND SPIRITUAL REMINDERS
These collections of insight and spiritual reminders from Tim's journal are thought provoking and offer comfort on some level every time I pick up the book. Sometimes, all that is needed is to read an entry or two from Fr. Tim's collection to brighten a day. I am very happy to have bought PATCHES OF GODLIGHT. IF you are already a fan of Jan Karon's writing, this simply enhances the experience. If not, it is delightful introduction to Fr. Timothy Kavanaugh .

Food for Thought
I have read all the books in the Mitford series by Jan Karon and loved Father Tim. When I saw this book in the library, I brought it home. Read two pages, went to my computer and immediately ordered it from Amazon. It is too good to read through like a story. I particularly like the style, some items "handwritten", some on "sticky notes", some torn from a books, others typewritten on Father Tim's old sticky "i" typewriter. Each tidbit gives food for thought, a reminder, a touch to the heart. I have made it a part of my daily devotions. Sometimes reading one item, sometimes several that are linked together. The gardener in me responds to Emily Dickenson's I am a Rose, other items make me smile and other make me THINK.A good book to have on your bedside table or anywhere you have just a moment to spare for a smile or a thought.

Awful handwriting ruins the pleasure of it!
This book is supposed to give you the feel of reading Father Tim's note book. He writes down nice quotes when ever he stumbles on to them in literature, poetry and scriptures. And there really are some pearls in this collection of quotes. That said, I do have a problem with this book. As cute as the idea is, to get the feel of peeking in to someone's private note book with hand written notes, it really would have been nicer with regular print. I had a difficult time deciphering the awful handwriting which meant not understanding all the quotes or not making sense of them. Since there also is a second part to this book, it also would have saved paper to print them both in one book. I am sure Father Tim would love the idea of saving the forests!

Unexciting
As other reviewers have pointed out, this shortish book contains quotations from various writers presented as though they had been written or pasted into a notebook. The handwriting is not that easy to read and tends to get between the reader and the meaning of the quotation. I could not be bothered to read much of it. On the other hand, one or two of the quotations were really good and probably worth the price of the book (I bought a used copy) in themselves. I had seen a number of the quotations before, but for someone who had not done so, they could be very worthwhile. Personally, I was a bit disappointed.

I already have the hardcover of this and love it. (I have the whole collection of Jan Karon's Father Tim books.) This was a present though and am not sure how it went down. However, I think it is very good indeed. Thank you.

Good quotations, hard to read script
I am a Mitford fan and really liked this book. However it's printed in a mock handwriting script so you do have to work hard to read it. I'd have preferred a normal printed volume, however, the conceit is that this is Father Tim's actual notebook so I suppose I may lack romance...
