The Private War of Major Benson

Fast paced, funny. They don 't make comedies like this anymore. The remake is what you'd expect of Hollyweird.

I know this movie is very old, and yet the message is VERY contemporary! There should be a softness to our bravery, and a hardness to our sensitivity!

Mom is a retired teacher and assistant principal at the school that The Private War of Major Benson was filmed at. The school is St. Catherine's Academy in Anaheim California. Cute movie.

The great movie actor, Charlton Heston, didn't do many comedies, so this movie is a special treat for that reason. But even more surprising, it shows that he excelled in that genre. His trials and tribulations when he is assigned as the trainer and commanding officer of a young boys' ROTC Catholic school are fascinating, and played perfectly. It is wonderful family entertainment that is on a par with some of Walt Disney's best 1950s family comedies.

My high school experience included ROTC and the same kind of guidance and supervision that was exemplified in this film. I enjoyed it and wish I had seen it many years earlier. It gives the viewer an insight into the relationship between the Army personnel and the administration of the school. All of this was realistic. You couldn't have written a better script to demonstrate how the cadet Colonel learned the concepts and methods of leadership because of the difficult situation that Charleton Heston's character put himself in. I can also understand that those who did not have an ROTC experience would not fully appreciate this film.

I saw this movie decades ago and really liked it so decided to buy despite not a fan of CH's politics. Still liked the movie - it's fun especially the interaction between the little boy and CH. I would recommend it.

Such a hard to find movie. Good acting and cast. I went to this school where it was shot. St Catherine's military school. Watching this brings back so many memories. I was a boarder and lived there year round.

Far cry from Moses, but the story and characters have heart. Haven't seen this movie in 40-50 years, but I still enjoyed it.
