Alert! Changed my mind. See update.
I'm new to breadmaking, and have produced some beautiful loaves. Until I cut them.Torn, uneven slices do not toast well. Tried an electric knife, bought new bread knife. Nothing helped! Now my new Bamboo Bread slicer enters my kitchen. Snap to put up sides, but may be initially confusing as from the start position they actually fold under. My 9x5 loaf did not fill the space for the bread (side to side), but found by holding the loaf steady by the "butt" end, pushing against the side nearest to me, and towards the guide at the slicing end. Loaf did not budge when slicing. And every slice is evenly cut, no torn edges! Here is a tip I saw on a video that really made sense, and worked. Create a true cutting board surface, and protect that expensive knife. Place a very small cutting board ( bartender cutting board) in the bottom of the unit. So the knife is not cutting directly on wood. No fear of cutting deeply with pressure to get that crisp lower crust. When slicing my large round loaf that was baked in a dutch oven, slice the loaf in half first. Then place cut side against closest straight side of guide. (Picture)***Update 8 mos later:Thought I liked it, until I was finding splinters in the with the bread crumbs. Only gets used, maybe once a week. Tonight was unable to cut through the bread because the knife was stuck in the wood slat! Tried to use after cleaning the wood pieces out, but the knife continued to get stuck in the wood! Useless now.Don't know how I could cut differently to have prevented this. Only one direction to cut!

Good quality, great size & value for money
My husband and I recently started making our own bread at home and after a few attempts at cutting it freehand realized we needed a slicer if we wanted even slices for sandwiches or toast. We selected this one as it matches the bench we wanted to put it on so the room doesn't look so "busy". Arrived within 3 days of order and it's great - I love the fact that it's easy to clean. What it's hard to see in the photos is my favourite part - the "pegs" are different widths so you can get thinner or thicker slices just by moving where the bread sits in the slicing tray. Perhaps the only downside is that the slicer itself is quite wide and it makes it hard to make a quick easy cut - but that just gives me an excuse to get myself a longer bread knife :D

can't get good slices.
There is a tray that collects the crumbs, (great!) there are two walls of rounded slots for easy cutting...problemthe loaf sits on the tray, there is about a half inch plus, between the bottom of the slot walls and the tray.you cut down to the bottom of the slot and there is still that extra half inch plus to cut through, do you tear off thebottom of the slice? or like I do use 'artistic' cutting, which doesn't work well, giving me too thin or too thickbottoms. which burn in my toaster. this is just another product to take up room on my counter, and notdo the job, would I buy this again...no.

expected better
I paid a little more for this model than what I could have gotten with a competitive brand but I thought the higher price would mean a better product. First problem I had was getting a sliver from the bamboo slicing guide the very first time I handled it. Next my 2# loaves were higher than the top area of the guide so you had to cut down a bit before getting to the slots. I haven't used this guide enough yet so it possible I will get better with time but as of now my slices very in thickness. Overall .. I don't think this Regal Bread Slicing Guide is worth the higher cost.

Sturdy well made product.
I found this to be a sturdy, well made product. I make my own low-carb bread, which has a softer consistency than most breads and was looking for a way to cut uniform slices so the carb count would be consistent. This product was very helpful. I was able to use my electric knife rather than my bread knife to accomplish my goal of uniform slices. The slicing guides had enough room to fit the electric knife with ease. I also like the fact that I can fold the sides down for space saving storage. I am very happy with my purchase.

Great slicer
Just what the baker ordered! I make my bread and really enjoy having a slicer that generates evenly-sliced bread. In addition, there are several slice thicknesses that can be chosen. I have had no problems getting bread sliced all the way. If I would suggest anything, it would be to have two end pieces, not just the one that is provided, to keep the bread from sliding forwards and backwards. In the meantime, one hand does the trick, while the other does the slicing.

Clever Design
Works like a charm. Sides come up and snap into place perfectly. Crumb tray truly works. Am able to cut much thinner and more uniform slices of bread then I can freehand. I had a moment of difficulty figuring out how to fold it back up for storage and this isn’t explained in the instructions - you have to pull the sides back a bit- but it wasn’t that difficult. Such a clever piece - works beautifully, avoids mess, and folds up for space saving storage. Quite pleased.

versatile
easy to set up and use. would have done better if sanded edges smoother. had a few splinters noted. have numerous bamboo items and they all seem that way. I just use a sanding block to remove sharp edges and splinters.
