Fong-Torres writes with an easy-reading style, a clear love of the people and the music he's writing about, and he is able to paint a vivid picture of what he's experiencing. It's maybe not a style I associate with Rolling Stone magazine in 2013, but Fong-Torres also had some giants (former Beatles, Dylan, CSN&Y) to write about, so the material was definitely there for a solid write to capture. I wish he'd put out a second volume. Glad to see this released as an e-book, at least, since my original copy has long vanished....

Not Fade Away is a nice compilation of essays & articles written by Ben Fong-Torres, one of the mainstays of Rolling Stone magazine. Having subscribed to RS, I was familiar with his material. Much of my appeal for this book lies in the memories of him, Rolling Stone & his subjects. I would have given this work a five-star recommendation but after reading some books on individual acts or groups in the music genre, these pieces seem incomplete, but on the other hand reading in segments has its advantages. And Mr. Fong-Torres is a good writer who was able to gain open access to a variety of intriguing characters, making this a fun read.
