Perfect instant read thermometer. I use this mostly for meat and fish but also to test the temperature of milk when making yogurt. It seems to be very accurate (no more over cooked chicken) and is super convenient. Small enough for a kitchen drawer but it’s magnetized so I stock mine on the side of the refrigerator. Great product at a great price.

I've been using this for a couple years now next to its big brother, the Javelin Pro. This Javelin is nice and compact, but still has all of the best features of the Pro.The probe is well protected when folded and is extremely easy to use since it turns on and is ready as soon as you unfold it. The temperature reading updates very quickly and is very precise.The battery lasts nearly forever too; I haven't needed to replace the battery for two years with reasonably frequent use.I've tried other thermometers and I can recommend you buy a Lavatools if you value a quality, durable tool. This one has even seen a few flames from open fire pit barbecues without any sign of damage. It will last you a long time and it is well worth the money.

Fast, solid, and accurate.I don't need a 20 foot probe and neon screen to temp the half inch halibut in my hands.Solid, meaning the probe won't fall out like those flimsy ones your chef buys in bulk.You bums better stop coming to the line to grab my Javelin, this thing cost $20 and is INVALUABLE to me. Get your own.

This thermometer is incredibly accurate and shows the temperature almost instantly, which has made grilling much easier. I love the compact, foldable design—it's super easy to store and the built-in magnet is a great bonus for keeping it on the fridge. It feels durable and high-quality. Definitely a must-have for any home cook!

I bought the Sesame-colored thermometer in September 2018 (for $25) and only started using it since Spring 2023, but it still holds up today (over five years later)! Now I use it almost daily for indoor grilling and it does the job; as soon as the probe is out the display starts moving and then reflects the surrounding temperature in 2-3 seconds and has never blinked or gone out. It has also been reliable and trusty; I have cooked my food down to even the minimum safe recommended temperature and luckily (assuming all else is equal) have never felt ill from my food or as if it was undercooked, making this thermometer reasonably accurate in my opinion. It also sticks well to the refrigerator/freezer and my steel silverware and is otherwise sturdy; sometimes I swing and thrust it about like a rapier and the probe and housing remain perfectly functional and intact. Granted it may not last as long as the advertised 4000+-hour battery life due to disuse, I only use it for about five minutes a day, and the messiest it has gotten was having tiny grease spots on the display, it currently shows no signs of slowing down and I trust it will continue to work well for quite some time to come. This is THE BEST probe thermometer I have ever owned for the price and I've been through about 6 different probes in the past 4 years.Pros:First off "NSF APPROVED!" for those who work in commercial kitchens.The color selection is a nice touch but as most may not know these thermometers are actually color coded for commercial kitchens so if all colors were purchased you have almost no risk of cross contamination due to the thermometers. The design is compact yet solid without making the unit too heavy (1.8oz) for a uniform/shirt pocket or the display too small to read.I love the clip and magnet as well so you can clip it to a retractable lanyard if you're working in a commercial kitchen or just clean and stick to the side of your fridge when using at home.Last but not least this device has a battery saver that shuts the thermometer off after 60 minutes if the probe is left open and is rated for 4000+ hours of use.Cons:I'm being a bit picky with these but there are a few things I would change for instance the battery.WHY would they use a CR2032 battery as opposed to a AAA is beyond me. I guess you could argue added weight but a AAA battery would have been fine! If anyone at Lavatools reads this and a javelin 2 is in the works PLEASE give us a better battery option so that a rechargable battery can be used!Which leads me to the auto off timer that shuts the unit off after 60 minutes. I feel like this should be 5 minutes or 15 minutes max. This is an instant read probe! You aren't leaving this in food for 60 minutes and if you plan to you should be buying a probe thermometer with a cable that allows you to set timers and temp alarms.Also giving the probe full range of rotation rather than stopping at 180° would be nice but not absolutely necessary so you can accuse me of being picky with this one.Lastly the unit selector switch which is under the battery is such a PITA to get to if you ever need it. Again another design decision that makes absolutely no sense to me whatsoever. I guess you could make the argument that the device is more durable without any extra moving parts on the exterior but if feel that's a bit of a stretch.Overall I think this is a great thermometer vs its competitors at a good price point for the average consumer and commercial kitchen staff alike. This is great. It works super quickly to get a reading and I like that it has a little magnet on the back so I can store it on my refrigerator near my stove for quick access rather than hunt around for it in one of my kitchen drawers.

I’m so glad I bought this meat thermometer. And not just because it has a cool name… JAVELIN!It really gives me peace of mind when cooking meat, particularly chicken and turkey which I’m always concerned about cooking thoroughly.As well as using it for checking the progress of roast meats in the oven, I have also found it excellent for cooking steaks to perfection on a George Foreman grill. Similarly, it’s great for checking individual items on the barbeque or in the air fryer.The fact that you can not only check that meat is properly cooked through but that it is also done to your preference, is great. You can avoid drying out your roast dinner out by judicious use of the Javelin. If I’m in doubt I just check the “cooked” temperatures of various items on the internet but I also keep them listed in a notebook for quick reference.Obviously this isn’t as sophisticated as a meat probe such as Meater which comes with its own app (that does work very well with joints of meat) but it is quite sufficient for stabbing into various smaller items and getting a pretty quick internal temperature reading.The confidence that this device has given me (as I generally like to avoid poisoning people!) is brilliant.The thermometer is activated by folding out the probe and you can turn it off by folding it back in. It has an easy-to-read display, is easily wiped clean after use, can measure temperature in Celsius or Fahrenheit, comes in a variety of colours, can attach magnetically to the fridge and has a really long battery life.The price is really good considering how much of a game-changer this has been for me in the kitchen.

It's very sensitive to small changes in temperature. Very useful! It's also very compact.

Nice bit of kit for the kitchen. Super fast read thermometer and incredibly accurate. Great for baking and testing meat. The magnetic back is great to stick to the fridge or oven.

They are so easy to use, great value. We owned one for 3 years and accidentally wrecked it (water immersion), but it’s so nice to use.
