Dorman 645-550 Marker Lamp Socket Compatible with Select Ford / Lincoln / Mercury Models

I purchased a 'new for me' 2014 F-150 in 2019. I'm partial to Ford's, so while I think it's a great truck, there are so many little issues with it that Ford should be taking behind the woodshed.Not too long ago, I happen to walk behind my truck with my lights are on and I noticed that's my left license plate light was burned out. Usually things like this are pretty simple, i.e. you turn the socket to remove it from the housing, replace the bulb and return to the housing. Removing the bolt from the housing isn't too complicated. However, Ford in their infinite wisdom decided to put a what I'll call a socket within a socket. The harness comes from the main wiring assembly, and this socket upon which this review is made, is inserted into that harness. The bulb is inserted into this piece and reinstalled back into the housing.From a fundamental and simple point of view, it doesn't seem warranted have two different electrical connections. The bulb itself was kind of tough to remove from this socket, but the real Joy became removing the socket from the harness. It's kind of hard to explain but there are two arrow type pieces that fit within this socket near the front that you have to collapse in order to remove it. Well, that becomes a bear and as you deal with this for 20 minutes you have a tendency to break the harness. And that's exactly what I did.So now I have to go out and buy a wiring harness, splice it into the wiring assembly and put it all back together the way it sits right now this socket does not clip into place, and I had a Jerry rig it with a zip tie.The bottom line is that this socket is not the issue, it's Ford's incompetency and making a simple socket. Especially with regard to a license plate light. And you could see many, many folks complaining about the longevity of the system and the problems that it causes. All I could say is buy a few of these along with the pigtails. You're going to need them.

Picture and description says three wires. This socket came with no pigtail. I really needed the pigtail but I made it work with the wires that I had. Also, this socket is not offset and pushes against the metal next to it but I was tired of messing with it and forced it into place. Not a very good fit for my 2004 Ford F250.

Bulbs won’t fit inside the pigtail socket you will have to pry the terminals back so that a bulb can slide in . But fists and does the job for 2009 f250 side marker socket

Product as advertised. Fit very snugly in the housing it was meant for. There are several versions of this that are close to identical but the mounting tabs differ. Make sure you select the correct socket for your application!
