The Xultún Tarot: An indie deck.
I decided to get this deck since I live in the Yucatán peninsula in México, where the mayan culture also settled. The deck comes in a green medium-sturdy box that contains the 78 card deck and a little booklet that introduces you to the Xultún Tarot, the method of shuffling the cards, and keywords for each of the Major and Minor Arcana. I think the art is beautiful and the card stock quite good. The back of the cards is a green jade with a pattern of white mayan glyph.THE MAJOR ARCANA: They are borderless, which gives you the feeling of expansion; no titles are included and the numbers are in the style of the mayan culture: a point means 1, a line means 5….So if you see in the bottom of the card 2 horizontal lines and one point above (the sum is 11, which relates to the Justice). This might be quite hard at the beggining, since there's no explanation for this in the LWB.THE MINOR ARCANA: A thick black border at the bottom, with the tittle of the card in 5 languages (english, french, german, italian and spanish). The images are RWS based, but in a mayan art style, like a mayan codex. The suits have been renamed as follows: Swords and Cups have remained the same, but Wands were changed into Staffs and Pentacles have been renamed Jades. As for the Court Cards, these are Servants(Pages), Warriors(Knights), Ladies(Queens) and Lords (Kings).I use this deck burning some incense and listening to tribal soft melodies, and as far as I've been reading with it, the more easy is to me to understand the cards.

Perfect Gift
It arrived very quickly, much to my excitement. The deck is absolutely beautiful and was a perfect gift for my partner. He appreciates his Mayan background and was also looking for a tarot deck— this happened to touch all bases. The art is gorgeous. The fact that they all marry together into one larger image is so unique. It’s definitely a deck that requires some interpretation and skill. I highly recommend this for those seeking a one of a kind tarot deck, or for those that are interested in the culture of the Maya. Though it’s older and out of print in some places, we’re lucky to be able to access it as best we can!

Superb translation!
After over 30 years I have come to finally observe this splendid Mayan Tarot deck. Originally published in 1976, this stunning interpretation of traditional Tarot translates wonderfully to the often overlooked and misunderstood "lost civilization" of Central America. More than a kitschy tribute, this deck bridges the wonders of both Tarot and the wonderful artwork of the Maya.I am no expert by any means of the Maya, but I know a labor of love when I see it. The major trumps are all numbered with the Mayan numerological system. Oddly enough, these glyphs resemble trigrams from the I-Ching. China is an ocean away from the Yucatan, yet one cannot deny the similarities in both systems. I would have to say it is an odd coincidence. The creation myths of the Maya are stranger yet! Other star sytems and people from the sea bring to mind legends of Atlantis and UFOs. Mere speculation, but grist for the mill in certain esoteric circles. After all, this fully developed civilization had access to the Atlantic ocean!By all means, if you can get your hand on a copy of this masterpiece do so. Just because it is out of print, doesnt make it impossible to find. A tarot archeologist like myself finds it worth the effort to track down this amazing addition to your collection!

Beautiful, interesting, difficult
This is by far the best "Native American themed" deck I've come across. Not a crass attempt to cash in on generic "Native American" imagery, the Xultun deck is a coherent exploration of Mayan mythology, limited to that group alone. Learning how to use it requires absorbing a completely new system for anyone familiar with standard imagery and meanings. One advantage this may have over other decks is that there is no danger that the person you are reading for will be able to second-guess you based on their own interpretation; to a neophyte, the cards - at least the minor arcana - are incomprehensible. The majors are recognizable as reinterpretations of the Smith-Waite deck, but this would not be immediately apparent to the casual viewer.Supposedly the artist conceived this deck after having a dream about it. It's unique in that the major arcana all have a "base" and no borders, allowing them to be placed next to each other to form a single image. The deck comes in a two-part box with a lid that fits over the base that contains the cards. It's much better than the typical "cereal box" that opens from the top. The cards are the usual size. The backs are kelly green with a repeating pattern composed of small white bird silhouettes arrayed diagonally.

Not for me
I really wanted to love the deck, but is just not for me. Trying to open the box was a real adventure, but I managed to do it. The card stock is good, but the colors are very pale. I could pass all that, but I just can’t connect to the deck. Trying to decipher the major arcana is really hard. I don’t know them by number, I’m more of a visual person, so I use the images, but with this deck is almost impossible to know which card is which. The pamphlet that comes is useless. I know there’s a book that explains the cards, but I’m not willing to buy the book if I didn’t feel a connection with the cards.I guess people might love this deck, but it is not for me.

Affascinante, colorato, magico!!

Conflicted
This deck gets me conflicted, i gave 5 stars because is not the cards fault,is just that my intuition dosent connect well with them and is the first deck i bought with which i cant connect. If i do a simple 2 cards reading i go somwhere but for more complex readings is a no go for me, at least at the moment

Buen Material bien empacado
