Extremely effective
I use this product regularly after workouts and jiu-jitsu to recover. The ice packs, when fully frozen, are easily manipulated within the slots to provide very good coverage, surrounding the knee joint and stay cool enough for two full 20 minute icing sessions with 20 minutes between the first and second session. I have used the item many times and the quality of material leads me to believe I will have use of the item for years. I highly recommend this product for injury recovery.

effective, well designed
I had a total knee replacement and my medical team said I should ice the knee fairly frequently. Regular ice bags, etc., were a PITA so I went looking for highly rated solutions. This item came up as one of the top ones, and I snagged it. I have not regretted it - the points that helped put it in the top rated units were that it put a gel pack right across the front of the knee and also one *behind* the knee. (That's as well as the usual two that fit one on each side of the knee so four packs total.) In addition, the gel used in their packs did NOT freeze solid; it remained flexible enough to allow it to shape to my knee. You can pull this stretchy unit to fit *and* the 'velcro-on-steroids' straps hold very well. In my case, this is a double bargain as I will be having the other knee done in about 1.5 months.

Great knee wrap! Puts ice right where you need it!
This is great for my 13 yr old skinny son's knee and will adjust well as he grows into man size. I would say this fits your standard size 10 year old up to a large man. My son has a repeat issue with prepatellar swelling when he has any impact on one of his knees, which happens a lot in basketball and occasionally in his other sports. He has started using this preemptively after track practice and if he feels any discomfort at all. We took out the rear ice packs since he doesn't need ice back there and that reduced the weight considerably so he can get around with it on. Update 6 years later. This thing lives in our freezer. My now 20 Year old son hasnโt needed it in a long time but I use it almost nightly after my workouts. Itโs tough and doesnโt have any wear at all. I take this when we travel because it can wrap a knee or arm or leg and can also just lay flat for a back. You wonโt regret this purchase!

Very good, very cold and provides good coverage all around the knee
This ice wrap has been great to help me recover from a traumatic injury to my knee. I was hesitant to buy it based on some of the negative reviews, so I thought I would address those for others who might be on the fence: 1) A few reviewers said it is too cold. I suspect this has a lot to do with individual freezer temps, but mine do get very, very cold. I use this ice wrap over my leggings, and it still is quite cold. I'm used to putting a ziploc back of crushed ice directly on my skin, and this wrap is noticeably colder than that. I do think that depending on freezer temp, this definitely has potential to cause frostbite if the user is not careful. 2) Gel packs falling out or shifting - When the gel packs are warm (room temp), they are quite soft, so i can see how they would shift. Once frozen, though, they keep their shape. The pockets have flaps on both sides, so I have not had any trouble with them falling out. 3) Gel pack being too hard - In my freezer, the gel packs do develop ice crystals in them and get pretty firm. However, they are still pliable, so I'm able to massage them with my hand to get the gel evenly distributed and to shape them as necessary. 4) It is too heavy to move around in - I agree. I have the L/XL size with 4 gel packs, and though I have walked across the room with this on, it's not something I would generally do. I like putting my legs up while icing anyway, so this isn't a problem for me. One issue I have is that they develop frost on them quickly. I live in a fairly humid climate, and I'm sure any similar product would have the same issue if it were equally cold. The reason this is a problem is that if there is frost on the inside of the wrap, it gets extra cold in that spot, which is uncomfortable and potentially harmful. I solve this by keeping the inside surfaces of the wrap together (not exposed to much air), so when frost develops, it develops on the outside of the wrap. I give this 4 stars because it works well for me. It gives good 360 coverage around my knee, and I like that it is cold. I'd prefer to add an extra layer between my skin and the ice pack than to have one that is too warm even when directly on my skin.

Shock Doctor Knee Wrap
I'm very satisfied with this knee wrap. It is widely adjustable and it cools the whole knee area. Front and back. I would recommend this knee wrap to my friends and family.

Had a bad knee injury and this nursed it back to life. The packs are removable for freezing or heating. My knee was better in no time.

I've been using this product for several months now to treat my knee, which suffers minor osteoarthritis following surgery a few years ago and swells up if I do anything to intense, like play tennis (which I do each week). I've tried using other knee icing packs but after some research I bought the Shock Doctor and I have to say that it really does the best job of wrapping around and cooling the entire knee area - front and back, above and below. Good sized cooling elements mean that it really retains its low temperature, allowing you to return it to the freezer after 10-15 minutes to then re-apply again an hour later, although if you were buying them for recovery from knee surgery (ie, you want to apply them regularly over a 16 hour day, I'd recommend buying 2, or maybe even three, and rotate their use, as once they do gain temperature they will take a long time to lose it again). Easy to apply with 4 velcro tabs to really pull the cooling packs firmly onto the knee. Fabric is the right thickness and its comfortable to wear, with the cold packs sitting in place in their pockets and providing a great wrap around cooling effect.. Cold packs don't leak and are easily removable but I tend to leave them in their pockets and stick the whole thing in the freezer (at about -15C). Well worth the money.
