A counting book not about blended families.
Despite reviews this book is NOT about blended families. Had purchased this thinking it would help my children understand how blended families work for the future. While the book does have a variety of different ethnicities in the illustrations this is clearly a counting book.

Confusing
This book is titled "One Family" and was recommended by my little one's school. I thought it was about acceptance and family, but it is a counting book about grouping. The opening line is "one is one" and names things there are one of in the picture (and it is "one person...and one book for sharing" which seemed silly to me since there is only one person, but...) then the next page opens with "one is two. One pair of shoes...." When I read that my 5 year old had a lot to say about it since she thought it was silly and even after I explained about one pair being two, she didn't like it. My 5 and 2 year olds like to look at the end papers in books and enjoyed these ones. My two year old likes to look at the pictures and we talk about what we see, but don't really bother with the "story", which there isn't one really, again more like a counting book (which I like counting books, but not when they present numbers in such a confusing way)

Colorful family friendly. Love it!
Love it! We are a mixed race family with different colors and different languages. It’s beautiful and important that our little one has representation and knowledge (at her young age) that being a colorful family can and is the norm.

Lovely and simple, this picture book embraces diverse families!
Simply told and beautifully illustrated, George Shannon and Blanca Gomez offer a wonderful portrayal of diverse families, and end with the important message that all people belong to one big family living together on planet Earth. This is a keeper!!!

Falls short with lack of text
I loved the illustrations in this book but the story was a bit confused. The illustrations show different families and diverse imagery but the text is like a counting book, but doesn't logically make sense. Felt with more explanation and text this book could have been great but falls short.

Fantastic
Fantastic book. We have two African-American adopted grandchildren, and this book is great for the whole family to read.

Not all families are the same
A fun look at counting all the ways that a family is one, regardless of who you call family.

This is an incredibly sweet story about how families can all look very different
This is an incredibly sweet story about how families can all look very different. I love the artwork and that the story is timeless. Definitely a great addition to any child's library!
