Our Cosmic Ancestors

Great is you like hypothetical math.
I bought his book because it was referenced in several other books I have been reading. It is written by a venerable former NASA engineer. Being an Engineer myself, I was interested. The book mainly centers around celestial mathematics based on observation of objects visible in the sky without a telescope, that he says early civilizations could have not figured out on their own. Well when you have nothing else to do at night but look at the stars, you make observations ad figure things out.... Also I have fact checked many of the other items he mentions in the book, finding out that they are all bogus. The guy has a great imagination, and make a lot of money from this book. I am surprised that this book is quoted as fact in so many places. Oh and one last thing. Even thought this book is in paperback, you would think the printing would be clear and crisp. In many places it is not and the text is faded and poorly printed.

A 'different read'
This book opened my eyes and connected a lot of the remaining 'dots' I've had for a long time. If you're into this subject matter, this book will be hard to put down once you start reading it. Rainy night, turned my cell phone off, read it from cover to cover.

It's better to just formulate an hypothesis
This was a very detailed exploration into the mathematical relationships of calendars, time, measurements, navigation, and other facets of the human experience. There is a lot of food for thought here, and really makes you wonder where things really got started. I was going to give this 5 stars, but I think the author (who has top credentials), went just a little overboard with assumptions. He then uses those same credentials to more or less add weight to things that are really in the "beliefs" category, and not really scientific fact. It's okay to speculate on things, but make sure to keep facts and beliefs separate. It's better to just formulate an hypothesis, and leave it at that.Besides that, the author really knows his math, and drives numerous calculations home to support various theories. For that, it's quite interesting, but could be somewhat boring to those who are not inclined towards numbers.

Chatelain corroborates Sitchin
This was the second time that I read this book, the first time was a few decades ago and then it didn't quite have the same meaning for me. I found that this time I read it I was continually reminded of the Zacharia Sitchin book "12th Planet" and wondered if Sitchin was inspired by Maurice Chatelain's book. All in all, with a few minor changes the Chatelain book and the Sitchin corroborate each others research which I find interesting in the sense that hSitchin's book is the result of reading the text from the Sumerian tablets and Chatelain's book appears to be his own research done on the mathematics of the ancient ancestors and research from other stories.

Numerical Proof
This is an original argument for contact by ancient astronauts, based upon the extraordinary grasp by ancient people of the exact length of earth's orbit around the sun. Really quite amazing that these numbers have not been explored before this. Don't be put off by the cheesy cover illustration. His arguments are well and clearly presented, despite the recurrence of so many numbers. You don't have to be a mathematician or even be able to work out his extrapolations. He presents the information in a way that makes his calculations and straight presentation of known data very clear. Leaving the clear conclusion that primitive man in the distant past lacked the capability of working out the many celestial and cosmic truths for which he left clear records without some kind of outside help.

Ancient Astronauts Reveal!
Across the planet there are massive monuments and pyramid structures that defy modern explanation. Yet, even more amazing is the engineering, mathematics, and astronomical alignments of these ancient edifices. One can only imagine who, or what, was the genius behind their creation. Maurice Chatelain, a former NASA engineer and member of the Apollo Team, has the impeccable credentials and intellect to attack this mystery head-on. He takes the reader on an amazing and compelling journey of inquiry and discovery to unravel these questions. This is a fascinating and exciting premise he presents that will keep the reader wondering, pondering, and wishing for even more answers. Highly recommended.

Very detailed accounts and facts about inter-planet connections to everyone
I am totally engrossed in the content of this book. I originally had scanned it and drew the wrong idea about this book which I apologize to the author if he read it. I have drastically changed my opinion. A very and total description of many ancient societies and to the present time when the book was written.

Not a good read
I was keen on reading this book having regards for the credentials of the author (exnasa, mathematician, expert in communications for NASA etc) but it proved to be a big disappointment. Chatelaine goes to extra ordinary lengths of calculations and comparing distances and dimensions of pyramids, countries and time to try a show his belief that man was visited by aliens who left their mark and clues to their visit in history. The numbers are huge and the book rambles on and on. I have little doubt that the calculations are correct, but the conclusions drawn by chatelaine more usually appear to me the be more blind faith that based on scientific evidence. Some even appear to me to be bald statements with no backup. You could buy this book and check all the maths, research some of the authors claims but still be left wondering "so what?". Even so, there appears to be some remarkable mysteries yet to be solved from measurements and study of ancient buildings and places. But I found this book to be a very tedious read, dated (very Erik Von Daniken in style) and unconvincing in its conclusions. It's going to the charity shop.

Read it a while back. He is totally into the subject matter, and reacting with an extremely lively and broad ranging intelligence which is just what you want from an author. He was trashed online from a few sources but quite unjustifiably so. He says quite freely that he doesn't get things right all the time. An honest author with a rampant intelligence.

RUBBISH
I FOUND THIS BOOK TO BE VERY HARD TO READ AND FULL OF ABSOLUTE RUBBISH IT ENDED UP IN THE BIN AS I DID NOT WISH SOMEONE ELSE TO HAVE TO EXPERIENCE IT BY GIVING IT TO THE LOCAL CHARITY SHOP.

Our cosmic ancestors
A book that comes from an unusual angle, written by a former NASA scientist.Although a lot of mathematics are shown in the book, it is a worthwhile read.
