Good product, POWER DRILL REQUIRED
These reviews are a real mixed bag, and as usual the truth is somewhere in between.First, the magnets are plenty strong to hold an average person's collection of average, traditionally-shaped light to medium weight kitchen knives. Anybody saying their such and such knife won't stay put simply needs a different storage solution, which should not be a ding against this product. Yes, the magnetic force is mostly at the top/center with little to no pull near the bottom. This is a GOOD thing as it allows you to easily tip your knives away from the block. If the magnets were much stronger or had more pull at the bottom you'd be prying your knives off every time, pulling the block over, scraping the finish, and risking stabbing yourself in the stomach from the sudden release. The only negative lies in the (imo) unique assembly requirement. There are three wood screws you have to put in the bottom to attach the magnetic block to the base, and they don't go in easy. There are pilot holes in the magnet block to prevent splitting but they only get you so far. Don't believe the image showing an easy install with a screwdriver, unless you have the forearm strength of a Predator cast member you're gonna need a power drill. My pilot holes were in the right places (after what looks like a 2nd try) but I believe the folks saying that theirs were positioned wrong. Of course you could always make your own pilots if needed, with again, a power drill. Once it's finished it works great, just don't expect grandma to be able to put it together herself.

Good product!
I really recommend this product. First, families with children don't have to worry about children fiddling with drawers. Second, it is easy to choose what kind of knife I want, no need to rummage in the drawer. Scissors takes up a lot of space, this product reduces my worry! So cool! Highly recommended!

Happy with purchase
I am glad I read previous reviews regarding assembling this knife holder. My husband enlarged the predrilled holes and had no problem with assembly. The magnet holds large and small knives and scissors, and there is plenty of space for my knives. It is more hygienic and takes less space than a block. I keep it behind my wooden cutting board, so the only problem is that I sometimes bump it and a few knives fall down. Maybe stronger or differently placed magnets would solve that issue. Overall I am very pleased with my purchase.

giving more space on my kitchen
This is perfect. I have never been a fan of those wooden block knife holders. Before my kitchen remodel we use a magnetic knife holder attached to my wall. My new remodel I didn't want to or have space on my wall. I saw this and was so happy to see that they made something I had in my previous kitchen. This is even better because it holds all my cooking knives because it's double-sided. It's slim so it doesn't take a lot of space. The magnet is stronger to keep all my big knives in one place. You may want to buy two because this would make a great gift. will try to add a picture later.

This block serves that purpose perfectly. I read some complaints that the screw holes didn't line up on this, but mine came with little arrow stickers indicating which end went where, so that wasn't an issue. I also saw complaints that the magnets aren't strong enough, and that the stand itself, isn't sturdy. My stand holds ten knives, of varying size and weight without any trouble at all. The magnets on both sides work just fine. As far as stability goes, yes, if you pull a knife directly perpendicular to the magnet, the stand will tip over. However, if you slide the knife straight up from the stand, there is no issue with it tipping.Overall, this is a compact, inexpensive solution for storing knives in the kitchen. It's definitely an upgrade from those stupid gigantic knife blocks that take up far too much counter space.

Good Idea That Needs Improvement
First of all, the predrilled holes were sloppy and misaligned and in order to get the supplied screws to tighten enough to where the insert wouldn't wobble on the base, you definitely need a power driver. The actual item is a great idea and saves a lot of space. It's a good alternative to installing a wall mounted magnet, and it holds more knives. However, if you have knives within an inch from each other, they tend to grab onto each other and drag each other along when removing a knife or putting one back. If the magnet was stronger, I think this would fix that.Again, decent product, but only time will tell if the little things annoy me enough to where I'm replacing it.

Overall good
Looks great and stores knives well. My only issue is that the wood started to separate slightly after about a month. I put some cutting board treatment on to see if it helps; we will see.

Works Great!
Product does what it says! It even comes with a Phillips Screwdriver to attach the bottom with 3 screws. Am satisfied with the purchase except for the small chip in the wood! Decided not worth the hassle of returning it since this is not a decorative piece and won't be visible. Would have given it 5 Stars if not for the chip! It is a generic magnetic wood block, not a piece to show off fine cutlery!
