Fat Quarter Quilts

One of my favorites. Each quilt specifies 6 fat Q's
My fat quarters of the month club gets me 6 new fat quarters each month that go nicely with one another, and this book is the perfect complement for them. Some pretty and inventive patterns too. I can't decide if the sampler or the Irish chain is my favorite, but they're both awesome. The author also includes good instruction later in the book on how to bind your quilt, and I just made use of it yesterday. (I had sewn my binding on, almost all the way around the quilt and just had to join the two ends. For the life of me I couldn't remember how to do it properly. Well, there was this handy little drawing right in this book that made it easy. So I was happily back on my way to finishing my binding soon after that.) Thank you M'Liss Rae Hawley, this book is a keeper.

I love this book!
I got this book from the library to see if it was worth the money & I can tell you it is! Before seeing it in this book I saw a finished quilt that was very similar to the broken bricks pattern. The lady told me that she had already made 5 of these quilts which were quickly claimed by friends and family so she was finally making a 6th one for herself. She said some of them had been used on patios and looked beautiful so she wanted to do the same. I have bought enough fabric to do at least 3 of these for myself, mother and mother-in-law. I've started and it seems to be going together rather quickly.I also love the triangles pattern, but I think I'm going to wait until next summer when I have more time for piecing all of those triangles together. This book is one you'll want to have in your collection for sure. Even if you don't buy fat quarters you can buy 1/2 yard cuts and cut them in 1/2. Then you have enough to do 2 quilts or trade with someone else & it's cheaper to buy your fabric that way too.

This book is only okay....
This book is nice in that it has many quilt patterns for fat quarters. The photos are in color and the directions seem easy to follow to complete the projects. However, the down side for me on this book was I didn't care for the patterns or color choices. I realize you can change up the colors, but I have to be inspired by the quilt if I'm to attempt to make it, and these modern style quilts just didn't do it for me. It's a personal thing I quess, but if your like me and like the warmer, traditional type patterns and colors... you will be disappointed in this book.

Hurray for Hawley!
Fat Quarter Quilts (c 1999) is a must have for any quilting library! M'liss Rae Hawley shows a range of projects and styles. For each, she shows several variations and color selections. This broadens the horizons for quilters. Her writing style is relaxed and clear. She shows great attention to detail, even in often overlooked areas like fabric preparation and what to do if yardage problems arise. Her section on fabric selection is much appreciated, since projects can go awry at this early stage. I find myself going back to this book as a reference.

Recommend for a beginning quilter, it's very good basic info
First off I should say that I bought my copy second hand from an amazon seller. It was in much better condition than the description suggested and arrived very fast. I was looking for ideas and this was not the book for me, it was too simple, but I think it would be very good for a beginner. It gives 8 simple quilt patterns and a tote bag, but it has clear easy to follow instructions and good basic info for all aspects of a quilt. In the center is a nice photo gallery of each pattern done in different colors and styles to show what can be done creatively.

Novice quilter looking forward to trying quilt patterns in the book.
As I am a novice quilter this appears to be a great book with clear and concise instructions. I am looking forward to trying my hand at some of the quilt patterns in the book.

I love her books!
I picked up several quilting books at the library and ended up buying a couple of M'liss Rae Hawley's books (See also: Get Creative). I like several of the patterns found in this book and the thorough, but easy way she explains them. I am a beginner and I wish I had found her books before I started my first quilt. As soon as I have finished it, I will try patterns from this book.

It's wonderful to be able to get a book that is not a current publication this easily. This book arrived on time and as described. A refreshing concept to do business with a vendor that provides a product exactly as described and arrives within the timeframe stated. Thanks again. I will do business with you again.
