Let's Make Some Great Fingerprint Art

AND HAVE A GREAT TIME DOING IT
All right, I admit it. I bought this book to assuage my own parental guilt for never having come up with enough interesting or crafty projects to draw my children into the experience of making and appreciating how art is made. I expected a kind of kid-friendly glorified coloring book. Wrong. This is not really a book for children but for "artists of all ages". First of all, it is handsome to hold and beautifully designed. Relaxed but focused. Intelligent but not ponderous. Marion Deuchars is a talented artist with a divine sense of humour and wit. Let's Make some Great Art is really a course in Art Appreciation. You can go through it cover to cover as a lesson plan and you will find brilliant exercises to help hone your skills of perception - but these lessons subtly carry through to other disciplines as well. Or you can open it at random to any page and it will not disappoint. One of my favorites: EMPTY your pockets. Draw What Is In Them And Color Them In. (And if you need some tips to get you started, there is a wealth of info on tools and techniques as well - not to mention insights and factoids on great artists and works of art). The illustrations are delightful - even the one of the used tissue. What Deuchars teaches us is that Art tells us more about ourselves than anything else. I hope it will become a classroom staple for any teacher of art or otherwise - or any parent or caregiver, regardless of guilt-level. Buy it. For a budding artist or thinker - or anyone on the road to self-discovery. You will not regret. Oh and, Let's Make some Great Art requires no prior experience or penchant for art - it does not even require a drop of motivation. It will draw you in. Pun intended.

Fantastic, Full of Ideas
I homeschool my very busy and creative daughter. I, myself, am not terribly creative. Enter "Let's Make Some Great Art!" This book is full of wonderful ideas and great information. Some of it we will save for as she gets just a bit older (mostly to avoid frustration) - however there are plenty of things in here that a 6-year-old can easily do and enjoy. And who knows, she may surprise me with her artistic capabilities and want to try some of the stuff that I think is more difficult. We are well-stocked with all manner of art supplies, however I get stuck on doing the usual collages, painting, drawing - all good things, but not very exciting all the time. I am marking pages for some really fresh and fun-looking projects, like fingerprint art, creating a cubist portrait, drawing with an eraser, "cave paintings," and lots more.I can't wait to get started; my daughter will love it!

Wow this will last for years - definitely good for many arts ages and talents
I saw it at the Tate Britain in London when buying art supplies for my grandson but thought oh the weight in luggage so was delighted to find it on amazon. There are so many activities suggested by the book. I can tell we will be able to enjoy it for many years. Sometimes it is so helpful to have a spark of creativity at hand when doing art. Thanks to the compilers of this.

Best book on drawing I've seen so far...
This is an awesome book for anyone interested in art. It gives some basic knowledge about famous artists and artworks, teaches basics of perspective, light and shadow, face and animal drawing, etc. and makes everything look easy and fun. Each page has a little exersice for children to practise or to just be creative. It had my daughter glued for hours reading and drawing. Honestly, I wouldn't mind to receive it as a gift as well.

I'm Impressed And That Says A Lot !
I got this for summer for a couple children. I was hesitant because of the price of the book plus the ink. Also children these days seem to be glued to electronics. Gosh, I'm so glad I bought this book. The 6 and 9 year old have been working non stop out of this book for 2 days now (I'm jealous)! They are so creative. Nothing but positive ideas flying out of their cute, little brains. The book has areas that you can make your own art in which is awesome. Excellent author and illustrations. Perfect as a gift or for your own little ones. I think I'm going to have to borrow the book. Too fun!

Unbelievable creativity!
This book is phenomenal. I took it over to our preschool to show the director, and all of the teachers went crazy with excitement. Within a few weeks they had all gotten the book and were using it in their classrooms (kids aged 2 years to 4 years). I would highly recommend this to any parent who is looking for creative ways to capture the growth of their children as measured by their unique fingerprints. It is also such an easy way to spend time together as a family doing something creative and fun. I am not one of those Pinterest Mom's. I can't just make up my own stuff whenever I feel like being creative. This book is a huge help!

Perfect for a budding artist
This was a Christmas gift for my 10 year old daughter, who loves to draw and doodle. This book is lovely and larger than I expected. It opens with a list and description of different art materials and mediums. There are several projects based on famous artists or works of art, which includes a brief history or background. There is a little something for everyone in this book. Perfect for a budding artist!

A brilliantly inspirational workbook!
Bought for my 8yr old granddaughters birthday. But I'd like to keep it myself! This is a fantastic, informative and inspirational workbook for anyone starting out, wishing to kickstart their creativity. I would rate this as age appropriate for 8yrs to 108yrs!

Great inspiration
This is an excellent book. Great to get inspiration for starter activities at school when teaching art. Photocopy the pages so you have more for the children. It's also a great book to help when your struggling for ideas. I imagine it's a great book to have at home to use with the children on a rainy day. I highly recommend

Beautiful and brilliant fun.
I've just recently bought a copy of this book - and I'm writing this review to recommend you seriously consider buying more than one copy! I guess this is a kids activity book but, being a fan of Marion Deuchars' illustration, I purchased this as a keepsake. However, my 8 year old boy quickly started to work on it and now his big sister wants her own copy!
