nice.
if i were a high falluting (sp?) critic I would snub this flick. i'm not. this is one of lifes guilty pleasures. richard burton and several of the most beautiful and sexiest lady actors of their day, WOOOOOF! (for the ladies, not mr. burton). this is meant to be a dark, wierd comedy. never mind that. the ladies , some of them appearing topless, turned me to stone when i was a teenager. oh, to be young again. always was a big joey heatherton fan, she delivers in this one. oh mr. burton, you lucky dog. some would say this material was beneath him, and he hammed it up for a payday. i imagine he had a blast giving an understated performance as a creep. the dvd picture is pristne. the ladies rule here.

Simply the Best.
My friends often accuse me of not liking comedy. I think this movie proves them wrong. I think I have now seen Richard Burton at his very best. ( Perhaps "The Wild Geese" could be an exception. ) I loved this move. It made me laugh over and over again. And the women were wonderful and beautiful. Raquel Welch was stunning. She alone was worth the watch. However I have to say that Joey Heatherton made this movie for me. She was never the best actress on the big or small screen. BUT if she is not the sexiest I will eat my hat. Girls today wish they had the sex appeal, even one tenth of the sex appeal that Ms. Heatherton carried with her. WOW! How I miss the days of my youth ogling and drooling over Joey Heatherton. This movie reminded just how twitterpated she got me as a very young man just beginning to notice women. Perhaps I should say just beginning to notice what women like Joey Heatherton could do to me. I didn't understand it then but I sure do now and wish I had many more movies of her.Anyway. I say buy this movie and watch it over and over again and enjoy every second of it. The could try a remake of this movie and in today's world they may make it seem better with special affects, but they will never improve on the fun and enjoyment one receives form watching this movie with this cast. It is simply the best.David C. Maughanaka: TheWallruss Bluebeard

A Sleepwalker's Matinee
The good news is that this dvd was delivered in a timely manner and is in pristine condition. Plus, the movie itself is sumptuously photographed by Gabor Pogany, and nicely scored by the great Ennio Morricone. Unfortunately, this is where the good news ends.Director Edward Dmytryk--responsible for such Hollywood classics as Murder, My Sweet and The Caine Mutiny, as well as unfortunate adaptations of The Carpetbaggers and Where Love Has Gone-- helmed a late-career bomb with his take on the folk legend of Bluebeard. Updating the tale to post-World War I Germany, Dmytryk reimagines Bluebeard as an aristocratic, returning war-hero and burgeoning star in the then-nascent Nazi movement. Apparently, being a serial wife murderer wasn't heinous enough, hence the plot's Nazi angle. At any rate, none of the film's robustly all-star cast of brides seems suitably disturbed by Bluebeard's political activities (if, indeed, they're aware of them at all) to postpone their ill-fated nuptials. Nor are any of them overly bothered by the Gothic eccentricity of Bluebeard's castle, the plethora of phony cobwebs, the sinister housekeeper, the hidden rooms, the wildlife roaming the hallways, the ghastly red bedroom, and, oh yes, the guillotine. Nope, nobody really breaks a sweat until the gent refuses to perform in bed and then they figure out that there may be a problem? Alas, it's too late for most of the ladies as they are quickly dispatched and replaced with clocklike regularity.Richard Burton, in the title role, is suitably creepy but deadly dull as the connubially lethal Lothario. With his glued-on, vivid-blue goatee, Burton lumbers through the proceedings with obvious insouciance. For all the brio in his "performance", he could have easily been waiting in line at the driver's license office. During his career, Burton was often a great actor and, just as often, completely unhinged, but at least, he was usually interesting; in Bluebeard, he's a complete bore. And along with a terrible script, that's the movie's biggest downfall. The wives, made up of some of the era's biggest international sex symbols, do pretty much what they're expected to do: look gorgeous, show plenty of skin and die on cue. There isn't much acting required from the female cast members with the exception of Joey Heatherton (commanding the most screen time as the final wife) who shrieks, wails and skedaddles about the castle in a sheer negligee-ish costume designed to highlight her ample assets. Raquel Welch, Virna Lisi, Nathalie Delon, Marilu Tolo, Karin Schubert and Agostina Belli round out the wives club, while the ubiquitous Sybil Danning even shows up (as a prostitute) to, ostensibly, instruct Delon's character in the art of making love to a man.Lest you somehow get the misbegotten idea that there is more to Bluebeard than meets the eye, let me assure you there is not. There is no suspense, no real story of interest, and the Nazi angle is a tasteless, unnecessary diversion yielding a climactic "payoff" that is completely underwhelming. Bluebeard is, simply put, two hours of a shell-shocked Richard Burton wandering around lavish sets decorated with some of the most celebrated T&A of the day. And that's basically it. But hey, the dvd was 12 bucks so I can't complain. You get what you pay for.

Lots of hot chicks naked
Of course it’s trash. Burton did it because there’s no keeping Liz happy. Money, jewelry, a jet, yacht. She was a high maintenance bitch. Also it was Burton himself growing up dirt poor and fear of returning to it. That being said I love seeing Joey Heatherton naked!

WRONG ACTRESS WAS THE "HEADLINER'
JOEY HEATHERTON WAS THE DOMINATING FORCE BEHIND THE OVERALL QUALITY OF THIS MOVIE. RAQUEL WAS ONLY IN IT 10 TO 15 MINUTES AT MOST AND HER ROLE HAD LITTLE SIGNIFICANCE OR CONTRIBUTION TO THE MOVIE. IT WAS SURPRISING BUT NOT DISAPPOINTING. JOEY HAD THE KEY ROLE AND DID A GREAT JOB OPPOSITE RICHARD BURTON AS HIS "FAVORITE" WIFE ADDITIONALLY HAVING LONGEVITY.

cheesy fun movie
actually I give the movie 5 stars for pure funny entertainment with such an all star cast, BUT the shipper knew that the DVD case was broken as though it had been stepped on because it had been put in a sealed bag and there were no broken pieces in the bag and it was shipped with another DVD. it just wasn't worth sending it back since the DVD was played fine

pulp fictie
