This book arrived in good condition, even though it was shipped in a plastic bag and delivered by the Post Office. Very happy with the book and the service.

Good, clean fun for all generations!
I read a few of these books ages ago ( in the 50s) before I discovered Nancy Drew, the Dana Girls, etc. , but I never read the “ modern” ones. Even so, the first five or six in this series are great for girls in the 7-11 age set I think, especially if read in order, because the earlier books progress chronologically. Manners, morals, and mysteries - perfect combination!

Great Story!
For years I kept hearing how Trixie Belden was far superior to Nancy Drew. After reading several of the books, I quite agree.

Trixie is tops
Although I loved Nancy Drew, Ginny Gordon and Judy Bolton, Trixie Belden stories (particularly 1-10) are my favorite girls' series. The Gatehouse Mystery is one of Julie Campbell's (original creator) stories, which were the very best ones. #3 in the series, The Gatehouse Mystery occurs after the girls return from their travels in The Red Trailer Mystery and readers for the first time, get to meet Trixie's older brothers, Mart and Brian.Naturally, all the kids get along great and decide to form a club. Well, any club worth it's salt needs a clubhouse, right? The girls decide that an old gatehouse on the grounds of the Wheeler estate should be perfect! When Trixie and Honey go down to the gatehouse to clear away all the overgrown foliage, they find... a diamond! Along with evidence that at least two men had some sort of struggle the night before....What follows is exciting and fun and has some of the more memorable "LOL" moments ( watch for the discussion about the Wheeler's new gardener, for instance). Campbell had a real knack for creating personalities that just come to life and the Trixie Belden stories she wrote (#1-6) really shine. The Gatehouse Mystery is one of the best in series. The artwork portrayed in this edition is newer, but captures the original quite well (the original depicted Trixie and Honey with pruning shears and gardening tools outside the gatehouse).

Reliving my childhood
Trixie was my favorite heroine when I was a kid!It was her boldness in charging headlong into new situations. Yes. She ended up in bad situations a lot but always managed to come out ok, or even praised! Her good friends helped her get in - and out of -.all the scrapes. I dreamed of having friends like Honey and Jim, but didn't, so I immersed in Trixie's reality from a very young age.I'm 66 now and have two precocious, and advanced reading, granddaughters.I just bought the first seven hardbacks in this series at an auction and am enjoying them again, myself, before shaing with the girls.I'm sure they will enjoy them, too!

Just as much fun now as it was when I was a child
This was the first mystery I ever read. I was nine years old and loved the book. I re-read it recently and still found it fun. I like the characters and now appreciate the values that the author instilled in them. The illustrations are quite good. I do wish that the rest of the early series books were available. Otherwise we wouldn't know how Diana became a member of BWG. I also had my first lesson in genetics from that book. Blue-eyed parents can't have a brown-eyed child.
