Some Things Are Scary

Some things are scary, some things are hard to find!
When I was a very little child this book really really scared me.I didn’t think about it again until my late teens. I wanted to look at it to see if it was anywhere near as creepy as I remembered. But it could not be found.Around the year 2000, the book was re-released but it had been pasteurised and re-illustrated in a less minimalistic and less grotesque way.I never gave up. Then, I FOUND IT here. The original Version “Some things are scary” illustrated by The original illustrator, Robert Osborne NOT the 2003 remix “ Somethings are scary: no matter how old you are ” illustrated by Jules Feiffer. It cost about 12 times what it did in the 1970s and it took an entire month to get here, instead of the promised 10 days, but it arrived on Christmas Eve and it validated a great deal of old, half forgotten childhood fears. THANK YOU!And, Florence Parry Heide, I don’t know whether I love you or want to scare the heck out of you (maybe both?) But, you had a big impact on my whole Point of view

Classic illustrations, dry wit
My grandparents had a well-worn copy at their place when I was a lad. Got this for my daughter to enjoy too. The dry humor and evocative illustrations really do a good job of describing stuff and situations that are scary (but mostly harmless) for kids.

THIS BOOK IS A MUST HAVE
I bought this book for my son to memorize for an Oral Language festival his school was having. When he gave his oral report on this book he understood better about the fears he has. This book goes through most of the fears children have, that we adults have forgotten about. Not only did we laugh about the fears, we were reminded of how we felt being a child and "being hugged by someone we didn't like." It's a wonderful book for children to read and learn that their fears are not ridiculous, and not uncommon. This book is funny and comforting to children and adults alike.

My son is shy. So shy. This book helped him and I to understand that some things ARE scary and that's OKAY!

pointless book!
So the entire book lists things that are scary, I kept turning the page waiting for solutions or insights or some kind of advice to deal with all the scary things...NOTHING. Absolute waste of time.
