This book is all you need to catch you up on Key Performance Indicators.
Of course the "Dummies" series is geared towards the layman, but even if you are an expert in the quality or process improvement business you will find this book useful in breaking down the complexity of business process performance measurement.

Used properly, a very helpful compendium for managers in any kind of organization
Bernard Marr is an exceptionally skilled business book author. Unlike so many others, he isn’t writing a thinly disguised advertisement for his own services: he’s providing hard core, very valuable information in a highly readable format. If you’ve never heard of Key Performance Indicators (“KPI”) before, you’ll be getting a graduate school level course in these 279 pages of text (plus index). If you think you know something about KPI, you’re probably going to learn – as I did – that some or more of what you thought you knew was erroneous.Typically I tend to skim opening chapters or introductions: in general, they’re superfluous. Not this time. In 18 pages, author Marr provides a thorough introduction to KPIs and their value. Do not skip this chapter! The balance of the book is about creating, storing, managing, applying and using KPIs in various organizational environments. Unusually, for a business oriented book, it’s all interesting.I am pleased to say I learned a lot about the proper implementation and use of KPIs from this book. I used to treat them as unsuitable for application to small businesses such as those I am involved with. Mr. Marr has opened my eyes to the errors in my thinking. Well done, sir.Jerry

Probably the best book in the 'For Dummies' series that I've read
Probably the best book in the 'For Dummies' series that I've read. As Bernard Marr is one of the most experienced experts in the Performance Management domain (who could have written, just as well, the same title 'For Geniuses'), he obvious made a deliberate effort to find the balance between the insights and the simplicity of the presentation.Surprisingly for this book format, nothing important about the KPIs and how to use them was left out. You'll find well explained topics, which are often hard to grasp, like the difference between Operational and Strategic KPIs, the Lag & Lead KPIs, the correlation between the KPIs and their Targets and many others. The book includes a very good summary of the Balanced Scorecard Framework (not the only one - the EFQM Framework is presented, as well) and a topic that has been introduced by Bernard Marr in other of his books: the KPQ (Key Performance Questions). This book may be a good eye-opener, on one topic or another, even for established practitioners in this domain, so it's certainly not just a book 'For Dummies'. Well done!.
