Excellent Performance, Compatibility With Other Hikvision Software, Competitive Price
The DS-HD1 is intended to replace an older front doorbell/intercom system. Before ripping out the working intercom it was imperative to prove the new envisioned solution would function as intended with a complete working lab. The goal was to use the DS-HD1 at the front door configured to an Android smartphone in the typical configuration along with two other devices to view the front doorbell camera plus other cameras already installed on the property. The second viewing device would replace the intercom control panel and a 10.4" wall mounted Android tablet running IVMS 4500-HD is used for this purpose. A third viewing device is an existing Windows workstation running IVMS 4200 monitoring all the cameras shown on the phone and tablet plus additional local & remote cameras.Since I was creating a working lab environment before physical installation I was able to skip the mechanical install and go stratight to setup and operation once proper power was supplied to the DS-HD1. The three videos Hikvision produces for installation, setup and operation are quite good. Installation was uneventful but a lengthy process with a lot of QR code scanning and cloud authentication steps. It worked but I'd prefer to skip the QR code scanning and use a web interface for manual configuration.Once configured it performed well. The responsiveness to a doorbell ring is nearly instant to the configured smartphone. Live audio and video quality is quite good. The 128GB SD card works fine for recording and playback. Since doorbell-to-smartphone is how 99% of consumers will use the device it is an impressive product, especially considering the responsiveness and video quality, and that local recording and playback requires no monthly fees. The device becomes even more attractive because one can simultaneously monitor the doorbell camera with Android tablets runnning IVMS 4500-HD and PC's running IVMS 4200. Moreover, once the DS-HD1 is configured to one's smartphone further adjustments to the HD1's settings are more easily done using the remote configuration feature of IVMS 4200 than with the Hik Connect software on the smartphone.I'd recommend immediately doing the following:1. Change the device's default passcode. The default is the Verification Code shown on the sticker of the Quick Startup Guide2. Change the device's default WiFi encryption mode from the highly vulnerable WPA to WPA23. Even if one is using the DS-HD1 as a standalone device I'd suggest also installing the IVMS 4200 software to a PC to have more control of the camera's settings and to view and playback recorded video on a larger screenThe only concern I've observed so far is that the doorbell camera gets extremely hot to the touch on the camera's rear surface. Most users would never notice this because the device is usually mounted to a wall before it's powered up. Will monitor this to see if the heat becomes a reliability issue. For it's price, performance and compatibility with other Hikvsion software this device is rare in its class and easily ranks a five star.

Easy decision to buy. Will buy more and give as gifts, too.
This is a review of the DS-HD1 Hikvision USA Original 3 Megapixel HD WiFi Video Smart Doorbell. Purchased October 2020.Bottom Line Up Front: I ding this 1 star because it was challenging for a tech geek and would not be easy for a novice (those who might enjoy Ring). Would I buy it again? Yes, for my back door and also giving for Christmas gifts this year. So, putting my money where my mouth is.Fish eye lens makes the image a little distorted, but I think anyone being serious about this camera ($120) knows this is not for photography. Placement is crucial and background light can create dark faces so ensure you consider this.In my photos you can see where a live thumbnail for an existing Hikvision IP camera and how the door bell does not have one, you can see the fisheye round lens, along with day and night shots.Pros:- Hikvision. Love this brand. Solid and just works. I have purchased nearly 22 Hikvision cameras for multiple residencies.- Synology DS Surveillance System compatible.- Installation instructions were straight forward and all necessary hardware supplied.- Good video, Good audio microphone (lets be real, it is a fisheye lens)- Hik-Connect is now a good app and a go-to app for me.- Good motion detection.- Motion detection has a 'chirp' to let people know they are being monitored (can mute)Cons:- Instructions for connecting system was confusing with verification code and reference to softap_ABCDEF which I think most people think IS the password. Others have called this out.- No instructions for connecting to a NAS. Really, a guessing game.- Cannot set IP address manually, must use DHCP. This is important to me as I keep all my cameras in an IP range segment for monitoring and ensuring port monitoring/access.- No web interface…must use the App alone.- Within the Hik-Connect app, all other Hikvision cameras have a live thumbnail, but the doorbell only has an icon. Given this is ONVIF compatible one would think a live thumbnail could be displayed.

Frequent Disconnects - Save Your Money!
This devices sits approximately 10 feet away from my Wi-Fi router behind one exterior wall. The device disconnected and reconnected itself several times a week for the 2 years I've had it. But that isn't the worst of it. On a few occasions, the device just reset itself as if I was holding down the reset button which meant I had to take the faceplate off and reconnect it to the app (which is terrible). That would have been livable still if this last time it hadn't just completely stopped working. The device disconnected from the app so I went outside to do my usual reconnect but this time it would not connect to the app despite several resets and power-cycles. Seriously, if you're going to spend $100+ on a doorbell, do not get this one. I'm going to try out the Amcrest AD410 next since I like their other devices but if that doesn't work out I might just break down and get a Ring or Nest.

Outstanding Doorbell Cam
As a pro installer, I couldn't praise this camera any higher. I read through most of the reviews on Amazon for this particular cam. It seems quite a few people have problems getting it going. One claims you need an iPhone. Lot of reports of difficulty getting it started. It's pretty straightforward. Download hikconnect, create and account, and the rest is pretty simple. I used a note20 ultra. Installed and had a picture on my phone in less than 15 minutes.Huge note to add. Get on a laptop and download ivms4200. You'll need to edit some settings in the cam, particularly WDR. I had bright sun in the evenings and the picture was getting washed out. After that was enabled, zero problems. I get pictures of PIR events sent directly to me. Call quality is clearer than most phone calls. With some light config changes, this camera is way ahead of it's competition.

A perfect image but delays when someone press the doorbell but not good custom service
The media could not be loaded. *In the end I explain how I installed and re-installed*I had re-editing my post because I was so frustrated after a while using it because my internet provider did upgrade on my modem for another and changed the password, so when I tried to change the internet on DS-HD1 hikvision doorbel camera app (Hik-Connect) it didn't want to go nowhere. So I pressed reset and the re=installation processed wasn't possible because the EZVIZ wi-fi password doesn't work anymore. So I tried their website, videos, calling them and they have lots of things discontinued, for some reasons that I don't know Chinese products were discontinued, ok, but nobedy answers the questions, I tried calling, just a recording saying press 1, press 2, but never ever get through. It's like, after purchasing I lost the money if I try to install it again. And it hurts because it was a really good product so far. I learnt how to install and to make it record all day and night and still notify motion. When I just started using I said:I never had any notification when someone passed by my front door, just got a image when the person pressed the doorbell. But even with that problem I am happy with it because it’s millions of times better image then my security cameras. It has a delay of 5 seconds to tell me on my cellphone that someone pressed the doorbell, if that get fixed holly molly, nobody will be able to stop Hikvision products that’s for sure. I would like to buy security cameras from Hikvision but I still didn’t find any low cost camera that can capture colorful images, face or license plate at night at 155 or 165 ft distance (that’s the distance from my camera to the street) because the thieves cover their faces not their license plates.————-June 21, 2022After posting here today morning I decided to try the doorbell installation again because Hikvision wasn’t helping at all. I came to Amazon.ca and decided reading one by one review and one of then the guy said he tried EZVIZ app instead of Hik-Connect, it would get the EZVIZ installation wi-fi faster. In the same moment Hikivision started answering my emails, so I decided to try step by step some ideas that popped up in my mind. I got it working good again and answered the Hikvision the following (maybe it can help you all because the product is really good, not the call center):Ok, I solved it by myself, no technician:Steps I did:I saw Latino’s review saying that EZVIZ app is better then Hik-Connect so:1- I downloaded EZVIZ app and subscribed so the old password started working again but EZVIZ didn’t “see” = “find” the doorbell camera, the old password for “softap_F12345678” Wi-Fi;2 - I tried resetting again and again with the old password and didn’t work;3 - I removed the device (DS-HD1) from Hik-Connect and re-installed as it was brand new and it’s working now._______________HOW TO INSTALL FOR THE FIRST TIME- In my situation I had to put a piece of wood in angle of 45 degrees to face outside.- I got the blue wire with blue, red with red, didn’t turn off the electrical system of the house because I didn’t know which one was for the doorbell and my husband was sleeping on a alternating air mattress, he told me I wasn’t get a shock so I believed😁.1 - after the wires in place I was hearing a buzzing on the old style shimmer, so I researched and found that little box that comes to install in the shimmer must be installed to boost the electricity that goes to the doorbell because the camera must be on all the time not just when someone press the button.2 - All fisical part installed we must install the Hik-Connect app on a cellphone or tablet;3 - After installing and creating your access account at the top right of the app there is a + that’s where we press to install a device, open the front plate and press reset but and follow the instructions.TO a 3rd party NVR:1 - Go online and Google ip finder (there are lots for free);2 - Look if you find hikivision, copy the ip and Mac (that’s the identification of the device);3 - In your NVR go ADD + Wi-Fi Onvif devices it will look for devices that are online, you will find the Mac or IP, press add and in password of it use the password from the QR code from the booklet.Any doubt ask me and I can post in YouTube Luli Brazil a vídeo answering for free. That doorbell worth it.

Good, not perfect, some issues with installation
Edit: a year and a half later, the images all have a pink hue. Camera faces north (no direct sun) and is well protected by the awning … it just has failed for no reason.First of all I have used Hikvision's products (security cameras and DVR) for the past 6 years (and this includes hacking the DVR board to reinstall the software) so I consider myself somewhat experienced with this manufacturer and their products. The installation was glitchy, until I read on a post to disable cellular data and then the installation proceeded without problems (the programming of the unit requires one to log into the doorbell as a wireless access point, and for some reason when the phone that I was using to access the wireless access point switched over to my regular wifi access point the installation failed, but again turning off the cellular data allowed the installation to proceed.I have the unit facing the street and had to highly limit the all the parameters for motion detection else a simple vehicle passing by 20' away would be recognized as movement 5' away. Once I did that the motion detection errors (passive infrared) reduced almost to zero.So now that it is configured, it seems to work well. Notifies my phone of movement directly in front of it (a person), and creates a audio connection with my phone when someone presses the doorbell button. The doorbell makes an audible beep (from the unit itself) when it detects motion so I like this feature as it notifies those at my door that security is active. The doorbell is much larger than I anticipated.I would like to had a wired network connection, but this only connects via wifi (it is on its own vlan).Great unit, a bit buggy, but seems to work well.I have 3w led lights always lighting my porch so unfortunately I cannot comment on the night vision quality.Only thing I could say further is that I could have had some experience with other doorbell units from other manufactures so I could provide a comparison.
