Esbit 11.5g (0.4 Ounce) Ultralight Folding Titanium Stove for Use with Solid Fuel Tablets

The little titanium stand is great, but the review below is really a combo review for the stand + the esbit fuel cubes.So if you are looking for ultralight solutions, this is a great choice, but its not versatile. Are you are a mountain house style backpacker i.e. only need to boil 2ish cups of water at any given time to rehydrate pre-packaged food? if so, then I highly recommend going with the Esbit fuel cubes and a little stand like this. However, if your meals are more complex, require multi-step preparations, or need to boil beyond 2 cups of water, then this is probably not the solution for you.There are lots of pros to this little stove, but its not without some flaws.Pros:UltralightSmall, folds, and takes up almost no pack spaceWith the fuel cubes, you can measure the exact amount of fuel you need to bring. There is no guessing about how much fuel is left in a tank. You can literally just count the cubes and know how many meals it will make. 1 cube = 2 cups of boiling water = 1 standard mountain houseFuel cubes can double as an emergency fire starters (when rain made everything wet, I used one to get a fire going)Fuel cubes are not effected by altitudeCons:The cubes stink. Has chemical rotting fishy like smell. But as long as you don't put it up to your nose, its not THAT bad.The cubes package can get punctured very easily... giving your backpack that nice smell. So pack them up with care.Wind can be an issue. I highly recommend a wind screen. I made one out of a disposable cooking tin.When they burn, it gives off a subtle burning plastic or rubber. Not terrible, but also not pleasant.The worst aspect of the Esbit fuel cubes is the black, sooty, oily, waxy residue that collects on the bottom of your cooking pot & on the stand. So be mindful of where and how you store both the pot and the stand, so that residue stays contained.

This product is extremely light weight. It unfolds into a small tripod with legs that horizontally connect to a rectangular tray in the middle lower 1/3. At the top, the vertical support legs have angled pads for holding a small cook pot. The tray will hold a single solid fuel tab that is cheap to purchase; I buy them in bulk. Most thru hikers travel with a small light titanium pot. This small foldable device provides a framework structure that will support both the fuel tab and small pot, so you can boil water for rehydrating meals, or for hot drinks. You will not find a cook system lighter and less expensive than this.

So I have backpacked for almost fifty years, have an MSR white gas stove (great in winter!), an alcohol stove, a wood burning stove and a canister stove. I enjoy them all for what they do but I find that I use this little Esbit Stove the most for summer backpacking. Really simple to use under all conditions, rain etc, and I use a small titanium pot where I roll in my homemade wind scree, cut from aluminum roof flashing. The stove is tiny, light and durable, folds down to nothing. Boils 18 oz of water with no problem. Enjoy your travels :)

Tested this out today with my homemade cook set. My trusty Jetboil, along with the extra canister that i carry, is at least 30 oz. I was interested in dropping some weight and this was cheap so I tried it out. The stove by itself is 0.5 oz and 0.7 with the pouch. I tested it today with 2 cups of water. (46 degrees F, 80% humidity, wind 0 to 10 MPH, no rain) I used a wind screen during the test and had a lid on my pot.While I am amazed by the weight of this, I was not impressed by the performance. The esbit cube, which weighs 0.5 oz, burned for 16.5 minutes. The water never came to a full boil. It got up to 186 degrees Fahrenheit. This may be an issue if you want to bring your water to a full boil to kill bacteria. However, I do 80% of my hiking in the Smoky Mountains. The water is clean and probably does not need to be boiled. I will just probably filter it before heating it. Pain in the ass, but worth the ounces saved. And while 186 falls shy of the 212 degrees F for boil, it is plenty to heat up a mountain house meal and make a cup of coffee.I am sure that if I were to have thrown a second Esbit cube on when the burning one was halfway gone, it would have increased the heat and brought it to a boil. I will test that out later.Since this stove is so small, I was able to fit the stove, my windscreen, 5 Esbit cubes, and matches within my pot and it came out to 8 oz total. I love the weight!!!! I think this is one of the cheapest ways to save weight.Like always, the true test of this will be out in the mountains. Ill post again once I have used this in the field. Light, this thing is about as light as it gets. You will need a windscreen, as do all other stoves if you want them to burn efficiently. It is beautifully made, very strong and does its job well. It held my Imusa pot just fine, also held my frying pan just as good. If you love the simplicity of esbit stoves and want something a little lighter I think you will be delighted with this guy. Warning, this stove is as bare bones as it looks. It is basically just a tablet holder with a potstand, no frills.loved it. gets the job done fast. I routinely light this baby up, put my windscreen around it and let it work while I go about other campsite chores. It takes me about 1/2 tablet or a little more to get my imusa pot full of water to a rolling boil. If you are just gonna make some tea or instant coffee you dont even need a rolling boil unless the water is contaminated. Easy to snuff out the esbit fuel.5 stars.
