I wish now I had ordered My Father the Hero without Aspen Extreme. That video is a little too extreme for me, or for my children to watch. I used my printer to make a different jacket so only the video I enjoy can be seen on it.

My Father the Hero is a great movie, recommended by me especially if you have a daughter. A divorced father takes his young teen daughter on a tropical vacation with the intention of having some special father/daughter time, but what ensues is not what he expected. Lots of humor mixed with a little relationship drama reminds the viewer what lengths a Dad will sometimes go through for his daughter, even though he doesn’t always understand her reasoning. One of our family’s favorites!

My daughters and I watch this movie many times as they were growing up. Great, funny movie. Arrived in a timely manner, and good packaging.

This comedy is both wry and charming. Gerard Depardieu is one of the best known, best-loved French actors. He brings the same magic to the English-speaking screen with this romp through the perils and pleasures of raising a teenage daughter as he has with dozens of epic roles in French cinema. In this case, Depardieu plays an oft-absent father who is trying to make up for it by taking his 14 year old daughter (Kathleen Heigl) on a vacation in the tropics. As she wrestles with the feelings of young love for the island boys, she employs strategies that embroil both her and her father in comical adventures. While on the one hand this film is a light-hearted romp, it has its moments of tenderness and even depth.There are two odd features of this blu-ray disk: 1) The resolution seems no better than a standard DVD. It did not detract from my enjoyment, but why make a blu-ray disk without the high resolution? 2) There are no subtitles at all. I searched the menus, and pressed the subtitles button on my blu-ray player. So if you have someone who's hard of hearing in your family, this disk may not be for you.I lived and studied in France for a year, and appreciate movies like this that freely explore bi-cultural themes and even throw in a few French phrases, but you don't need to know French to enjoy this film.Highly recommended.

I really enjoyed this movie. It was a little unbelievable and cheesy at times, but great fun if you don't overthink it. It was neat to see Katherine Heigl as a kid. I watched this movie when I was young and enjoyed it then, too. Looking at the premise of this movie through a modern lens makes it more troubling with Heigl's character being so young and older men ogling her, but we didn't think like that back when this movie was made.

This is a fairly true remake of the earlier French movie (of same name) which casts Gerard Depardieu (as the father) and a 15 year old Catherine Heigl (as his daughter). It is an easy view and has a few quite funny moments, perhaps the best being when Depardieu is singing and playing "Thank Heavens for Little Girls", unaware that the audience thinks he is a paedophile. This was not in the original and gives the film a little more punch in the current climate. Apart from this and the location being set in the Bahamas however, the sets and plot are close to the original film, which was set in Mauritius. I don't expect it to set your world alight but it is very easy viewing 'rom-com'/'coming of age' storyline. There is no escaping that Depardieu is a great actor and Miss Heigl shows great potential, even though she had to wear a very revealing thong-bikini. Did ordinary young ladies really wear such clothes in the 90s? The ending, where the boy gets the girl, is a little weak (a little too much 'mush') for my liking. I find it hard to believe that any self respecting lad would say such crass words, let alone a bright young girl being gullible enough to actually believe them. That criticism aside, it's an easy Sunday afternoon view, and a must for every Catherine Heigl follower. In my opinion it warrants only 6 out of 10 for quality and entertainment, and no more than that.

A great, escapist film, in beautiful settings, with good performances from all the main characters. Makes you forget the bad weather outside.

Seen this movie as a child and looked in hmv for it, nowhere had it in stock. Then found it on here for a great price :) really pleased with it. Got here fairly quick and the movie is great !!! Definately reccommend :)
