As a new parent, the Ubbi Steel Diaper Pail has been one of my best baby gear purchases. After researching multiple diaper pails, I'm so glad I chose this one. No Special Refills - Thank God! This is THE biggest selling point for me. Unlike other popular diaper pails that force you to buy their expensive proprietary refill cartridges, the Ubbi uses any standard 13-gallon trash bag. This saves so much money in the long run! I was shocked when I learned how much those special refills cost for other brands - it's essentially a subscription tax on parents. With the Ubbi, I can buy whatever trash bags are on sale or in bulk, and I'm not locked into one brand's ecosystem. This feature alone makes it worth every penny. Odor Control: The steel construction and rubber seals do an excellent job containing odors. Even with multiple dirty diapers sitting in there, I don't smell anything unless I open the lid. The sliding lid mechanism creates a tight seal that really works. Our nursery stays fresh, which is especially important since we spend so much time in there. Steel Construction: The powder-coated steel is sturdy and doesn't absorb odors like plastic pails do. It feels substantial and well-built - not like a cheap plastic bin that will crack or retain smells over time. I can tell this will last through multiple children. We’ve been using the Ubbi Steel Diaper Pail since our daughter was a newborn—she’s now 16 months old. Around 14 months, we actually bought a second one and replaced our original. Not because it broke, but because we hoped a fresh start might help with odor control now that she’s eating solids and having more frequent bowel movements. What I’ve come to realize is that it’s not the diaper pail—it’s just the reality of toddler diapers. When she was younger, we could go 2-3 days without emptying it. Now, we really need to empty it daily or every other day to keep odors in check. That’s just part of the phase. Even with that, the Ubbi is excellent. The steel construction does a much better job of locking in odors compared to plastic pails we’ve tried, and the fact that you can use regular kitchen trash bags is a huge plus—no overpriced refill bags required. I’ve also started putting a small baking soda air freshener at the bottom of the pail, and that’s helped a bit too. After about a year of use with the first pail, I did notice a couple of subtle dents and a small rust mark on the exterior, but nothing that affected performance. Clearly, that didn’t stop me from buying another one! If you’re looking for a diaper pail that’s efficient, easy to use, and looks nice in the nursery, this one is still my go-to.

If you’re deciding between this and the diaper genie, CHOOSE THIS. You can use any bag for this (we use kitchen garbage bags). When it’s closed there’s no smell and it’s so easy to change out the bag for. For a dirty diaper container, the design is pretty minimal and nice. The quality is heavier and nice. I guess it’s easier to use a foot pedal than this top design when you’re holding a dirty diaper but honestly that barely matters when you look at everything else. For my second child, this pail is way better than the diaper genie we had for the first child.

I use the breeze cat litter system, which has a pee pad and hard pellets. Three times a week, I bag the dirty pad and solid waste in a doggy poop bag. The trick is holding the bags until trash day. I had been using a diaper genie for about 5 years for this - a poop bag ends up about the same size and weight as a diaper - but the hinge on the pail's lid was going out. It wasn't great in terms of odor containment and I really hate the liners, so I decided to look into alternatives before ordering the same thing again. (To be fair, I did get my money's worth out of that pail.) I liked this one for the simpler opening, generic bags, and metal construction. Just wow. I love it. This pail is much easier to set up and use. I can use a scented tall kitchen trash bag instead of the annoying liners. With the pail in my garage, the bag can go 3 weeks without smelling, though in summer when the garage is warmer I'll likely drop that down to 2 weeks. (Compare to 1 week for the other brand.)

blocks the smell well, when it’s not opened that is. holds quite a bit, however the white part that holds the trash bags sticks out, so try to pull out a full diaper trash bag get caught on that and makes it so hard. since its metal holds the smell of the trash bag, a good hack is to put a bowl of baking soda to deodorize it and prevent the smell from sticking to the walls of the pail. also has a hole to put a loaded diaper in is kinda small.

Excellent diaper pail! Keeps the smell in (until you open it which is normal). Takes regular garbage bags which saves you money and steel sides makes it much more durable.

Bought two of the exact same diaper pail. One for upstairs and one for the main floor. It’s a higher cost up front but it looks good, it’s high quality and you don’t have to buy the diaper pail specific bag. If you’re at the beginning of your baby making journey, this diaper pail will come out cheaper than some of the competitors on the market due to the cost of bag refills. We’ve had no problems with dirty diapers stinking up the room yet. We just use the kitchen liner bags from Costco.

This product does not hold in the smell as it says. I washed it and still smells. Not worth the purchase.
