Great BOOK: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002PO8NHGPREVENT ADDICTIONS TO ALCOHOL AND SUGARAA is only one approach to alcohol addiction, but AA is incomplete and varies from group to group. The nutritional method seeks to restore the and maintain the chemical/electrical balance (in the body and brain) upset drinking alcohol. She makes some good points but...
I was so excited to finally have someone validate my ideas about a no sugar diet. She gives good explanations and helps map out the plan to get off of sugar. However, my great disappointment came when in the text she states you can make your own bread at home without sugar (it’s not needed because there is plenty of “sugar” in the wheat for the yeast to feast on, the author explains). I was excited to turn to the recipes and...it calls for 1 tablespoon honey!! Now if you are new to this, you may think, what is wrong with honey? Well, sugar is sugar is sugar is sugar. Call it honey (17 grams of sugar per tablespoon=1tablespoon of sugar), molasses, corn syrup, maple syrup, date syrup, etc. It’s still sugar. And for the person that really wants to remove all sugar from their diet, I hope that tip helps you, because it was a game changer for me. Don’t let people convince you that these other names for sugar do not count. I cannot tell you how many times well meaning friends have offered me sugar free whatever, and it was filled with a syrup or a honey, or a fake sugar that just did the same damage to my body as the stuff from a cane stalk. And by the way, these alternatives are not cheap, so do yourself a favor and just eliminate them. I hope this helps someone who is struggling for answers to a sugar addiction.

Sugar-lovers - You can get your sanity back with this book!
Only 2 "steps" in and already I cherish this book. I rented it from the library and had to buy it because I liked it so much and really wanted to use it like a workbook, as the author suggests.I've always had issues with sugar cravings and terrible binging, and (I thought separately) had issues with mood swings, depression, anxiety, irritability... in the first chapter I was crying with relief reading about how my sugar sensitivity (as I know now!) is causing so much of what I thought was just random, chaotic emotional issues with no source. This book is written in a very caring, knowledgeable and clear way. I felt so relieved that I didn't have to suddenly stop eating 5 things I loved and/or am addicted to, but rather thing could be taken at my own pace, and that is a big reason why I chose to follow this "plan" rather than something more fad-like or extreme. The author really makes it clear with scientific and soothing information that this is about healing yourself and your actual brain chemistry, and that it can easily be done with patience and following the steps, which she supports and details clearly.Trust me, this can work for you! Already I'm developing consistent food habits and a greater understanding of myself and my body, feeling much less "randomly insane" and miserable due to blood sugar issues and I'm not even a 1/4 of the way through the book.Whether you're looking to just eat better, lose weight, or totally abandon sugar, this book offers very solid and nurturing, scientific support to do anything and help you figure it out along the way!

new beginnings
A friend told me about this programme and I went straight away and bought 3 books. This does repeat potatoes not prozac in parts, but I think a little more manageable. I have struggled all my adult life with my weight and passion for food. I read this and it explained everything I had experienced. My family backgroundI is a double wammy, so no wonder I have been so miserable, passive, fed up and trapped. I have through injuries and surgery, been physically bound and inactive for 1 year now. More weight went on. No energy. I love meat, and already knew so much, about various schools of thought. The most effective and sensible being the Pritikin programme, in the 80's , but not about the beta endorphines and seratonin. Makes perfect sense. I have witnessed in diabetics, dramatic personality changes, with profound affects. Makes such good sense and most of all gliding into it and knowing yourself and patterns. I have only just started and have already lost 4kg and an feeling better gradually energywise. I am sure going to follow this sincerely. I believe I am worth it.

Helps set you back on track of normal eating
I've struggled with sugar for many years, and this book really helps take the focus off lack of will power and more on getting the right balance of proper food to help you cure your addiction. It works on a few levels, there's a bit of science, common sense and practical guide to coming off sugar. Plus she talks about the nurturing and looking after yourself, she gets the manic side of living on a roller coaster of sugar.Would recommend to anyone, even without a serious sugar problem - just to help understand a bit more about the chemical make up of their body and how food affects it.

Life changing
This book has helped me so much. I feel like I have been given my life back, and I understand so much better what has been driving me all these years. It's not just about conquoring the sugar desire, it's about getting back peace and perspective and joy in life. I like how the author writes so companionably, friendly, but also uncompromising about the essentials. She offers a wonderful support network via the web too.

Hopeful That This Will Be a Lifeline
I have just begun to read the book. What I have read is helpful information. It not only encourages you but also explains the biochemistry of our bodies so that one can understand why things 'go wrong' and how they should function. I am hopeful this will help me turn my health around.
