Elephants Cannot Dance!-An Elephant and Piggie Book

These series of books are the best! My kids love them!

Mo Willems is a genius. These books are absolutely amazing!! The words are simple so new readers can read to an adult. The plot is humorous so adults do not bore when reading the same book every night for a month. The humor is enough for kids from 3-10 years old (which is difficult to find in new books.) I was able to read to a four year old and an eight year old at the same time every night. Both girls loved the books which was a huge blessing for this nanny because bedtime became easy. Willems was also able to sneak in important lessons for kiddos without them realizing it. I was able to use the stories to talk about different feelings, sharing, and many others. Well done Mo Willems well done!!

Just be warned once you buy your child one of these books, you will eventually have to get the whole set! Not sure what it is about these books, but my daughter is obsessed. I work in education, so I can say that it's very common. Once one of my students reads one book, they cannot wait to read the rest of the series! These are simple easy books with simple graphics. My daughter is a 2nd grader who reads at about a 5-6 level, and she absolutely loves these books. She reads them over and over, and it takes her about 2 minutes to read one full book. Each of these books has a subliminal life lesson as well. They focus on feelings, without making feelings an awkward subject. Highly recommend them, even if your child is an advanced reader...they will still love these. I initally felt like they were a waste of money because they're so easy for my daugter to read, but after I saw how much she genuinely loves them, they were worth every penny. She especially loves reading them to her little cousins and friends. They have a lot of expression (yelling, excited, ALL CAP WORDS, sighing, sadness, etc.) So they help my daughter practice her expressional reading where she reads without trying to speed read or sounding like a monotone robot! :)

If you are looking for charming and engaging emerging reader books, your kindergarten/first grade/early reader will be delighted with these books. The illustrations are very appealing and supportive of the text. The text is predictable, offering enough repetition to be supportive of predicting and acquiring new sight words, without being boring. Very self-reinforcing.

He is a FANTASTIC author. Our previous favorite was Knuffle Bunny and then we discovered the Elephant and Piggie books. My daughter began reading these in kindergarten and now reads aloud to us (making all of the character's voices). These books have heart and friendly messages and are loaded with humor. These would be a perfect gift for your child to find in the mail or to bring to a baby shower. They are definitely books that we will keep forever (along with our collection of Dr. Seuss books). Mo Willems is a favorite in our house! The Elephant and Piggie characters are relatable for kids, and there’s some subtle humor that’s funny to me too when I’m reading with them. The books are great for emerging readers, there are lots of repeated words and the stories are engaging. There are few enough words on each page so that new readers don’t get overwhelmed and enough pages to make them feel like finishing a book is an accomplishment! Absolutely love every book in this series, elephants cannot dance included! Highly recommend to parents of preK through 2nd grade or possibly higher depending on your kid’s reading ability.

I really am going to have to write Mo Willems a letter and thank him for quadrupling my son's vocabulary. Between Piggie and Gerald, Knuffle Bunny and the Pigeon, he says new words all the time! This is a great book for parents to read (over and over again) since it's humorous. I really don't get tired of reading any of the Elephant and Piggie books. In this one Piggie tries to teach Gerald to dance but Gerald is always getting it wrong. Very fun to move hands and legs while reading. A great book!

My Son was given a Mo Williams book for his 3rd birthday.. He loved it..and laughed at the facial expressions that Elephant would make. I bought him more books, and he loves each one. My son just turned 6 these Mo Williams books are still his favorite books. Always asks me to read them to him. Still cracks up each time. They are very well written and very cute stories. The pictures are very clear and cute. Especially Elephant's expressions and what he says, makes my son laugh every time. Im using these books now to help him read, and he is reading well each time. Highly Recommend these books.. All of them.. :)
