One of my Favorite Books
I love a good gardener's perspective on their own home and garden and this book is a lovely conversation on his own plot of earth. Chapters are short and cover lots of items, such as tools and the particular degrees he goes to to get rid of rodents or create more flowers. Next to Diane Benson's 'Dirt', this is a fun and easy read - and an inspiring one for a gardener like myself.

A witty style and love of the land
I cannot resist a new book by Meir Shalev but as I enjoy gardens for reading in and looking at but have no idea of the identity of plants and trees, I was not sure if I would be interested in this book. How wrong I was. I devoured it, unable to stop reading. I found myself laughing out loud at some of his reminiscenses, like not being able to write because he had dropped two seeds under his desk and was mourning their demise if he did not find them. His love of the land, his superb writing style and wit reminded me how much I had enjoyed The Russian Grandmother. Joanna Chen did an excellent translation, a challenge because the author plays on words and names plants that would be difficult to translate, retaining the mood and style of the original Hebrew. The illustrations were beautiful, by Rafaella Shir.

Best Quarantine Read to Date
I read this book during the pandemic, in my backyard surrounded by plants and birds. It was just the antidote I needed to ground myself in the natural world. I am in the processes of converting my yard to all native plants, and My Wild Garden reinforces my commitment to this project.

A book to be savored!
What an engaging and thoughtful book, perfect reading for these days and beautifully translated. You don't need to be a gardening enthusiast to enjoy this, but you might end up wanting to be one! A book to be savored.

A beautiful book, excellent reading
a beautiful rumination over landscapes, biblical passages and human condition. I could not put this captivating collection of essays down. An excellent and flowing translation that captures the humor and wide knowledge of Meir Shalev.
