Good book.
Started out strong and was very interesting especially her childhood in the workhouse. The middle part was solid , but the last section seemed rushed. All in all, a recommend.

Well written. It reflects how poor children were treated in the "olden days."Maggie Hope is an excellent story writer with correct historical happenings.

Very enjoyable
Maggie Hope writes in Such a way that the reader can imagine exactly what her characters are like. This books tells the story of a workhouse girl who goes to work for a family and is abused. The girl runs away and is taken into another home where she falls in love with the son of the house and marries him. She miscarriage the longed for baby and her husband turns to gambling, as did his father. She eventually gets her own place and continues to write for the local paper after they had trained her. She has had some success in having a book published and writes every day. However she falls deeply in love with the editor of the paper after her husband committed suicide. The story does have a happy ending but don't want to give it away. A rags to riches tale.

Lottie
I was captured in this story from page 1 Lottie was a workhouse orphan . She left the workhouse to work for a family but it didn't work out and she was rescued and worked as a maid for a nurse who was also her friend but things happen and Lottie had to grow up fast she struggled but did improve herself . Well worth a read I love the detail that Maggie puts in her books again we are in durham and surrounding areas well worth 5 STARS ..

Boring and disappointing
I have been reading everything Anna Jacobs has written and loved all her books so wanted a new read that was along the same lines and set in the same era. Workhouse child seemed just exactly what I was looking for and I was excited to get started. I was severely disappointed as I found no substance to the story at all, it didn't hold my attention and to be honest I found it really boring and after only reading about 30% of it I am done with it

Workhouse Child By Maggie Hope
Nice read. Full of a child's courage and also, your heart goes out to children back then. The cruel way that they were perceived. Accident of birth and the trials and triblulations she went through. Interesting read.
