Picket Fences - Season 2

The DVDs I received were formatted for Australia and will not play in. the U.S. When I returned them for a refund, the refunded amount was minus a restocking fee because the cellophane on the DVD set was broken. But how would I know they wouldn't play without trying to play them and how can I try to play them without opening the cellophane!?!?! The restocking fee is entirely inappropriate in a case like this. If you're thinking about ordering a DVD from this vendor, think again. By the way, the vendor claims that I should have read the disclaimer under "Editorial Review," where it does say that it won't play in the U.S.; to which my response is that this disclaimer does not belong three pages down and does not belong under "Editorial Review." Why would I read an editorial review of a TV show with which I'm already familiar? Furthermore, the vendor's web site brags about his products being playable in the U.S.

So stoked! I thought I'd take a chance on buying the Australia release of Season Two, since US fans have been screwed on seeing this show here beyond the season one release years ago. There were no definitive answers online about whether or not I might be able to view the discs on my particular DVD player, and it looked like it might also come down to whether or not my American purchased television would display it, even if my DVD player was inclined to play it. BUT it seemed that playing them on my PC was highly likely to work, so I thought I'd buy the set and watch it on my computer for the time being and then invest in a multi region player if all else failed. I'm happy to report, lo and behold I had no problems playing the discs on my American electronics. So all in all, your luck with the region four set may be hit or miss, as seen by other reviews here. If you know you wouldn't mind buying a multi-region player, you might find it worth it to try this set and see if your DVD player will play it. A couple of heads up: the product info on Amazon shows these as "Region 0," which in theory should play on any DVD player, but the set I got did in fact say "Region 4" on the packaging; also, the aspect ratio may leave a lot to be desired for some. It displays on my TV as a square view in the center of the screen, and I haven't played around with the different view options available for my television to see if some of them may display in a reasonably view-able way. But that's a minor issue for me. I'm just glad that I can watch season two of this show finally! I'll be giving the other seasons a try since I got lucky here.

For over 25 years I have waited for a DVD copy of this show. I wonder why now they released it. This is perhaps the greatest show in television history. People may be upset it isn't like the West Wing, pretend to give two sides of an argument but actually make one side very weak. Here each episode is thought provoking. It gives both sides and makes you think while being funny and having great characters. There is even an episode based on the Grand Inquisitor chapter of Dostoevsky the Brothers K. There is nothing on television even remotely like this today.

I love love love season 2 of picket fences. It's my first time watching the second season (as I've only seen the first season). I had no issues with the dvds playing (as I got an all region blu ray /DVD player. The picture comes in fantastic, crystal clear and no problems with the dvds freezing or skipping. It's a great series and so thankful I own the complete series. Season 2 is by far my favorite so far. I love love picket fences.

I was very disappointed that I was not able to watch Season2 of Picket Fences. When I tried to play it on my DVD player I got a message that said "playback prohibited by area limitations and something about "reason codes". I have never encountered this problem before with all of the DVD's I have bought over the years. On the back of the packaging I found something that said the "Australian Version". I bought Picket Fences Season One and it played perfectly. I would hope that Amazon could look into this problem with the reason codes and send the appropriate version to the buyer's location.

Great series written by David E Kelly (seasons s 1-3) Season 1 has been available for long time but has limited availability in most libraries. Haven't found seasons 2 or 3 available in any public library so broke down and purchased. Still fun to watch after all these years.

None of the six discs in this second season of "Picket Fences" were able to be viewed. On all 6 discs the following message appeared: "Disc Error -- Please eject disc -- Playback feature may not be available on this disc." It was truly a disappointment as I specifically looked to see if this set was restricted in any way.

Quirky - perhaps. Intelligent stories - excellent actors - definitely. Would rate this series in all-time top classic TV shows -along with "My So Called Life" - relating to families and issues etc.
