Product Description In Long Life, Happiness and Prosperity, twelve-year old Mindy Ho (Valerie Tian) tries Taoist magic to fix her single mothers (Sandra Oh) financial situation and seemingly hopeless romantic prospects. Mindys misdirected charms appear to cause an aging security guard to lose his job and a local butcher to win the lottery. The guard, the butcher and her mothers stories all intersect, bound together by Mindys attempts at magic intervention. Set in the Chinese Canadian community, Long Life, Happiness and Prosperity is a story of hope and the importance of keeping faith in this sometimes difficult world. Review Beautifully shot and wonderfully played, Long Life, Happiness and Prosperity rewards viewers with three interesting, intricately interwoven storylines featuring well-developed characters and honest fears and motivations. It is certainly worth seeking out from Film Movement. --Ronnie Scheib, DVDTalkWith the sure hand of a skilled miniaturist, Mina Shum has crafted a nearly flawless film in Long Life, Happiness And Prosperity, a movie that, like an Alice Munro short story, locates the universal in the particular. --Susan Walker, Entertainment ReporterThe performances in Long Life, Happiness & Prosperity are all very strong, and child actor Valerie Tian is particularly good. The story is smart and entirely charming in intent and execution; above all, Long Life, Happiness & Prosperity is about hope. Hope is good. --Liz Braun, The Toronto Sun

Valerie Tian uses Taoist magic on Sandra Oh
This is a fun lighthearted charming piece that showed at the Asian Am. Film Fest in 02. I remember seeing this on the recently defunct AZNTV/Intl. Channel and felt this would be a great gift for Mother's Day. One of Sandra Oh's film debuts playing a single mom (dumped by her husband), struggles to carry on with her 12 yr. old daughter Mindy (Valerie Tian) working multiple jobs while Mindy tries casting Tao magic to bring love and good fortune to her mom and affects other Chinese Canadian residents with good and bad luck. We saw this dvd together and my mom thought it was really good. This movie may not be meant for everyone even if they can't stomach English subtitles or foreign films. Valerie Tian may have also appeared in "Juno" as a 'Pro-life'/Anti-abortion demonstrator. Look for her.

Inspiring movie
A beautiful movie that conveyed great messages. A professor recommended the film as part of an optional paper for a Family Therapy course. I enjoyed this movie as well as the class.

Cute refreshing and entertaining
I enjoy the workings of Sandra Oh so I made the choice. The little girl co-star will soon be Sandra's competition. Both worked so well together. The plot was cute, it unfolded a little predictably, albeit in a cute and humorous way.The movie was good entertainment. A glass of wine and my easychair made it extra special.

If only all children were as caring and considerate, even if they do things the wrong way, true love for others is a good lesson.

Having read all prior reviews, all I can say is --
that this film is a captivating delight! And made so especially by its star, Valerie Tian, as the adorable "Mindy".And Sandra Oh! The first I've seen of her, but she's also terrific.Don't waste time reading this: settle in and watch the film!
