I still use it in my professional life. It's about the right amount of detail for covering a lot of complex topics without overloading people new to the industry. Obviously if you're looking for more specific topics/workflows/technical breakdowns of specific sub-disciplines, there are available books for them, but this is a great overview of the petroleum field from a geology perspective. As I stated before, it's a great reference to look back to when refreshing myself on topics that I may not use in an everyday capacity. I would recommend this book for any student or any early-career petroleum geologist. I use his text to teach a course by that title. I change the order of presentation to follow the essential elements necessary for a petroleum accumulation, then get into the exploration methods and basin analysis. Sonnenberg's contribution of unconventional reservoirs is authoritative and very timely. Together they have made an excellent teaching and reference text.
