101 Daily Math Puzzles for Kids!: For Students in Grades 3-8

These activities are engaging and appropriately challenging. My grandchildren love them! I use them to enhance their homeschool math curriculum. I am a retired middle school math teacher and I would definitely used these to introduce and support algebra concepts.

First know that I am a special education teacher at a high school level teaching students experiencing a variety of barriers including disability, socioeconomic status, and being in process of learning English. I have been teaching individuals who experience disability for going on 20 years.  All of my students have had a lot of failure around academics which has led to the additional complication of learned helplessness.  These books are an awesome resource to help them push past these barriers in a way that leans on their strengths by making it visual and seem less intimidating.  I have been using them for warm ups, challenge questions and "break" days from the normal curriculum to keep them working on their logic and reasoning skills (critical for life as well as math tasks) and keeping the math portions of their brains active.  I started off with the free samples but these have been so popular and high demand that I have bought every book that is available to I have as much variety as possible and so I don't run out!

I had to take over "teaching" math to my 4 grandchildren! Pittsburgh had no real challenging plan and my 8 year old granddaughter and my 6 year old grandson needed support during that difficult time. So Nana had to come up with the lesson plans and Anthony and his MashUp Team is just what we all needed...fun, challenging, and skill learning, building and practicing!!!! Finally, bought the book to now use more with my other two grandchildren in Brooklyn who spend time i RI for the summer and we work on math skills!!!! (By the way, Nana aka, me, is either in RI or FL...thank goodness for Zoom!!!) Well worth buying this book and following the Anthony & MashUp Team!!!!

These are perfect for math stations or independent work! The students are always very engaged. They are busy thinking outside the box and talking to each other as they problem solve for the solution. Easy to choose just the right puzzle to challenge individual students or a "team". Customer Service at Mashup Math was quick to respond when I had a question and very very helpful. They were all about making sure I was taken care of! 10 Stars for Mashup Math Customer Service!

I have loved getting Mashup math free online and wanted to support them by purchasing some hard copies. The book is all in black and white, so problems that are based on color (like the one in the first photo) are next to impossible to do. Also, the answer key is based on color. The pictured ice cream problem has answers listed as chocolate, grape, and strawberry. I can figure which ice cream is which based on doing the math, but it makes it difficult to distinguish the differences when working with students. I would suggest NOT buying this book. Go online and find puzzles that are in color and usable.

I love these puzzles and have been using samples from the author for grades 4-8 with my 6 year old grandson. It's a great remote activity to do with him during COVID but so much fun anytime! It's so beneficial for him to apply the necessary logic to solve these. I decided it was so worth purchasing the book. My only disappointment was that the pages were black and white. If you buy this and write a review you can get the PDF version free in color!

The students I work with enjoy the thinking involved in these math problems. Indeed, they represent algebraic thinking and cover a variety of operations on a variety of levels. However, the "Look Inside" showed full color, vivid sample problem pages. The same pages and all the others throughout the book I recieved are in fact poor quality black & white versions of what I saw on the "Look Inside." I am disappointed in the product I received because of the misrepresentation of what the pages actually look like.

Love Math MashUps, but this book is disappointing . All the pages are boring, low-quality black and whites. Definitely not the beautiful and interesting COLOR mash ups I’m used to using with my class. Very very VERY disappointed.*****edit: updated my rating because customer service was quick to respond and offer an alternative solution

Great book to get kids (& adults brains working!) great introduction to understanding algebra! Sounds boring but it’s actually a great puzzle book!!!

The puzzles are quite engaging and the book is filled with variety. A solid resource.My only qualm is that you didn't get access to the pdf version as well. For me, having a digital copy makes it easier to print and resize as needed for my students. At the beginning of the book there is a page that describes how to print the puzzles which further confused me because, again, the hard copy didn't come with the digital file.My recommendation is to visit Mashup Math directly and buy the digital copy.
