Charm and Poise for Getting Ahead Hardcover – 1969

Great book for looking good. Pre-dates plain-faced hippie look of actresses in the 1960s.Most people benefit from make-up. Hopefully makeup will get back on the trend to being less and less harmful to animals, and safer for humans. This book covers the whole person, not just make-up. Hopefully the freedom of not ironing and not wearing stockings will not die out.

I truly enjoyed studying this book. I say study because it is a large text book. It not only has beauty information, but sections on being a public speaker, how to behave on a date, how to be a good employee, diet, sleep. It covers every area of a person’s life. The style of writing is typical for the era it was written in. As an English Literature major, the archaic style of writing was no problem. Very charming actually. So I recommend it to all ages. I wore out my first copy so I purchased a second. I enjoyed it that much. Purchased my first copy in the 1990s at a used book store.

I read and borrowed this book from the library multiple times during my years at Andrews University. Even though it was the 1990s, I loved looking at the illustrations on beauty, grooming, and dressing to fit your personality. This is a vintage classic on charm, poise and grooming that I highly recommend! I can't wait to order a good used version for keeps!
