Bishop: A True Lover’s Story

A True Love Story
I adore how much Bishop made Edison feel sexy and loved. Bishop was such a kind character with a hard background. He spenr 5 years in prison for something he didn't do. He changed his life completely and was such an amazing character. The slow burn was perfect! Edison tried not to let others get him down about his weight but definitely put a dent in his self esteem. Bishop never made him fell self conscious and was always quick to compliment him. When Edison falls he falls hard for Bishop and I was amazed at the care he gave Bishop.Bishop was really hard on himself for not being able to read and didn't feel like he deserved a smart man like Edison His fight to better himself and learn was a great part of the story and I look forward to seeing that progress im the next book ( which will be a different couple but with the promise of seeing this progression)Sky (horrible person) was nasty and it did add an element to the story that kept me wondering what he might say or do next. The banter between Bishop and Trent was pretty hilarious. I was also glad to see Bishops dad wanting to be a father figure instead of a "Homie" which was how he raised Bishop. You could feel the emotions these 2 had for each other and I loved the build up and their time spent together. Great Read!

Great story, missing characterization
Let’s start with what worked:- The plot. An ex-con, determined to change his life, meets a shy paralegal. This is a good plot for a romance, and the slow burn pace was appropriate for the story. I also really liked the side plot of Bishop and his dad building a relationship and Bishop’s friendship with Travis.- The character of Bishop. Great character. This guy is trying, so hard, to be better than he was. He’s well-developed, super appealing, and all-around great. Love Bishop. Love Bishop’s story. So why only 3 stars?Well, that’s because of Edison. So much potential there for an interesting character! This lonely, overweight guy falling for an-ex con with a heart of gold and a lot of complications? That should be good, but Edison is a big blank. We’re told he’s a nice guy, and I guess we see a few examples of him having nice manners and being welcoming, but there’s nothing else there. He’s never had a friend in his life, couldn’t get a SINGLE person he knows to accept his Facebook friend request, and he makes snacks for poker games he doesn’t get invited to. And there’s nothing really to counteract this, to show how Edison REALLY is. I could totally understand why Edison fell for Bishop, but spent the whole story wondering why Bishop fell for Edison. The author even has Bishop’s father and best friend ask Bishop what it was about Edison on two separate occasions and both times Bishop can’t answer other than to say, “Trust me” or “Its hard to describe.” If even the author can’t describe why the main character falls for the love interest, this is a problem! Also, an excessive number of typos. I’m generally pretty understanding of them in the self/independent publishing world, but it felt like every page had a typo.

true romance <3
i don't often spend more than 4.99 on a book, and even then only with authors i'm familiar with. but this book was absolutely worth it (6.99). i'm glad i took some time to read the reviews. and for as much as i read, i don't write a lot of reviews anymore, only if i find a book exceptionally good or exceptionally bad. i will definitely be buying the next book.this is a sweet story with themes i haven't seen much, an overweight man (eddison) who attracts the attention of a big buff guy (bishop), a big buff guy just out of jail taking things slow with the guy he wants to feel good enough for.add in interesting family dynamics and illiteracy, with bishops ass of an ex and eddison's horrible and downright cruel co-workers, and the story is great. i found myself pleasantly surprised at timesi enjoyed the sex. it was sweet and caring and really hot at the same time.

New Beginnings and Second Chances
I am a huge fan of A.E. Via, she is an immediate 1-click for me because she is an amazing writer who knows how to weave a story. What I loved most about this story is the grittiness. You have Bishop, an ex-con trying to do something with his life and you have Edison, a business professional who is too nice and exceptionally lonely. These two just worked! I loved their dynamic, especially how tender Bishop was with Eddie. It was beautiful to read. The secondary characters here are amazing as well. I loved Bishop and his Dad - what a trip that is.Now...…...let's see what we get next with Trent and Wood! This is going to be good.

Beautiful
Bishop has to fight for his new life in this stunning book. Having just left prison, working for his Dad’s landscaping business it is an uphill battle, especially as he also battles his illiteracy.Edison works at the company Bishop is contracted to re-landscape. With his own insecurities about his weight and not feeling part of the team these two very different men try to find what their hearts and souls need from each other.Unfortunately a colleague of Edison’s has other ideas. The journey they make together is moving and inspiring, with the great characters you can grow to love that you expect from V A Via’s books.

Different but good
I went into this not knowing what expect after reading some of the reviews asI have loved all of this author’s books especially the bounty hunter series. This is totally different, very slow burn and I can see where many may have been disappointed as it isnt as fast paced and full of bad boys as her previous books. I stuck to it though as I enjoyed the idea of Bishop getting a second chance at life and Edison deserving someone to love him and care for him after being bullied and laughed at his whole life. So, yes is different but I enjoyed it and the secondary characters (apart from Royce and Skylar)! I look forward to continuing their story in book 2!

So Satisfying
All the hype about this story is true. A.E. Via's character building and story development shines from every page. The sexy times were sensitively written and enjoyable to read but what makes the whole experience of reading this book was the love between the main characters. I especially like the set up for the next book.

One of the best contemporary writers of any genre.
As always A. E. Via writes with skill and sophistication. Her beautifully crafted stories pull you in and steal hours of your life. She has the ability to make you care about her characters in a way few achieve by giving them depth, humanity and authenticity. This new series is more ‘real’ than her others in that it you feel you could look the characters up online and find they are actual people. If you are new to her writing, do yourself a favour and read everything she’s written - you won’t regret it.

Great characters
This book took its time for the main characters to get really together but no page was wasted. Bishop is amazing and so is Edison who a sweet soul who touches everyone he meets. This story deserved the time the author gave it brilliant read couldn't out it down.
