Plan Toys Sorter
This geometric sorter is an excellent toy! One of the most wonderful things about this toy is that it is open-ended toy. My son plays with it daily; he likes to stack the pieces on the board or he'll take the pieces and play fill & spill with an empty container. When we first got the toy for him when he was 14 months old, he had trouble placing the pieces in the correct spot but now after a couple of months his sorting skills have improved greatly. This sorter is a great visual for introducing basic math skills, shapes and colors. The rubber wood used by Plan Toys is very smooth and has yet to splinter or crack (my son has thrown the pieces on tile floor many times with no damage). Some of the paint has transferred off onto some of the other pieces (mainly the blue, red, and green to the yellow) but not onto other surfaces. This toy is a great purchase; well made, durable and eco-friendly!

Nice Alternative to Traditional Puzzles
I purchased this product for my 18 month old son at Christmas. I can tell that he is just on the developmental cusp of understanding this toy and that while he is interested in it now, he will get more out of it in the future. It is a quality product and would be durable for even a preschool, I think. It is smaller than I imagined, and thus I would not give it to a child younger than one because the pieces would be tempting to teeth on, but at least four of the pieces are small. This is not my favorite toy to play with my son because it is not very exciting. I like it, but I wish I would have purchased a different geometric stacker, perhaps one that has the three different shaped towers. I think that might have been a little more fun.

Nice, non-toxic product - not made in China - but with a loose peg
Two stars were deducted because one of the pegs fell out which required a re-gluing. Otherwise, this product, like all other Plan Toys' products, uses replenishable rubber tree wood and vegetable dyes for coloring, and is smooth and well-machined -- good for the little one who sticks everything in her mouth. On the same token, the loose peg was small enough to pose a serious choking hazard and I always make a habit of regularly inspecting this toy -- something I should do with all toys anyway.

Very nice!
I purchased this for my toddler because I want to start introducing him to more challenging puzzles. At 29 months, he was able to stack them easily, but it was a fun review of shapes and colors. Not the stimulation I had envisioned, but with his little brother on the way, it's not a total loss. I'm sure we'll get years of use out of it. What blew me away was the quality of this puzzle. It's my first Plan Toys purchase, and certainly not my last. I went with Plan Toys because this puzzle is solid wood and I like that the pieces are stained rather than painted. I don't panic when I see my toddler start to place it in his mouth. (Old habits do die hard...) Other brands had reviews in which the pegs were falling out. Before handing this puzzle to my son, I jiggled all the pegs and it felt very sturdy. Lovely puzzle if you're in the market for one this style!

Great manipulative toy
I've puchased this sorting board as a gift for a one or two-year-old several times. Plan toys are some of the best designed, most eco-friendly, and most well made learning toys out there, and this one is no exception. Very solid multi-tasking toy that should last through several kids, if not generations. The toy is rated for 24+ months, but is going to be given to a one-year-old on his birthday. The pieces are large enough to be safe for a one-year-old, and I think he'll be placing the pieces on the pegs long before he reaches 24 months. Will update this review if I hear more details. Great to be able to find toys like this on Amazon! UPDATE: I was present at the opening of this gift to the one-year-old recipient. He spent a lot of time handling the pieces (chewing on them, inserting his fingers in the holes, banging them together, etc.) and was able to place the circle pieces on the pegs almost immediately. He had to compete for custody of the pieces with the two three-year-olds who were present. The littlest three-year-old, who had some trouble matching all the pieces to the "correct" pegs, was the most intrigued and returned to this toy over and over again. It seemed to be challenging to her without being at all frustrating. Watching the three of them use this board in so many different ways, fight over it, and return to it again and again, convinced me this was an excellent gift choice.

Poses a safety risk
Got this toy for my 1.5 y/o. A couple of weeks after we got the toy, my precocious 3.5 y/o son managed to insert his middle finger through the hole in the circle shape past his knuckle. We tried several lubricants to dislodge it. After about 10 minutes his finger was turning purple and he was scared and shaking. We called 911 and the fire dept and paramedics arrived promptly at the house and dislodged it without my son having to lose a finger. It was very scary and we returned the toy asap.

I ordered this Geometric Sorting board, however the company sent me the Preschool Sorting board, which is a newer version. There are a few differences, but the most important is that this newer version is not made of solid wood. It is made of saw dust that is glued together with non-toxic glue. When I contacted the company, I was told that the other board is not available. I contacted a couple of other companies who were also selling the geometric sorting board on amazon, however they would not confirm which version they would send me. I contacted plan toys and they tell me that the original wood geometric sorting board is still available, however I can`t seem to find it anywhere. This toy is good, however it`s not what I wanted.

I PURCHASED THIS TOY FOR MY GODDAUGHTER WHO HAS JUST TURNED 1 YEAR OLD. SHE LOVES TO PLAY WITH THIS LOVELY/STURDY/COLOURFUL/EDUCATIONAL TOY. SHE IS SORTING THE PIECES ACCORDING TO COLOUR, THEN SHAPE, AND THEN HAS THE ADDED EDUCATIONAL FACTOR OF TRYING TO STACK THE PIECES ON THE BOARD. I AM DELIGHTED WITH THIS VERY WELL MADE PRODUCT AND WOULD RECOMMEND GIFTING IT TO ANY YOUNG CHILD. GOOD VALUE FOR MONEY.

Maravilloso!
