Scrap-Applique Playground: Turn Quilting Scraps into Fun Applique Fabrics

LOTS OF NEW IDEAS FOR SCRAPS!! Sometimes I get tired of looking at all the little itty-bitty scraps of fabric and toss them away. I've now found a book that has newer ideas on how to put those scraps to good use.

Lots of ineresting patterns, can't wait to start.

This gives clever ideas for using scraps to make colorful projects. I have already tried some of the ideas.

There are a lot of books about scrap quilting; a lot of books about about strip piecing; and books about applique, but if you wanted one quilting book to cover the best of all these techniques, in a clear, easy and approachable way, this would be the book. Kay is a superstar in the applique world; here, her characteristically whimsical and lovely natural elements - like flowers, stars, birds, trees, etc. - become even more interesting because the appliques are cut from different fabrics stitched together. For that stitching, Kay offers a variety of fun scrap strip piecing and applique games( like `shrinking strips', a strip piecing method, `building bits and bobs,' another strip piecing approach, `crazy patch,' `barber pole bias,' and more. ) Then she offers a variety of easy applique methods (like fusible interfacing, bias-covered edges, and more); stitching methods; and complete quilt finishing directions.Kay's color sense is just lovely, with clear sky blue contrasting with warm oranges and reds. This would be an excellent book for a beginner as well as advanced beginner quilter; it teaches many piecing and applique skills; and advanced quilters will also enjoy making projects from these patterns. If you can buy only one quilt book this year, this book - with so many fun and effective techniques - would be the one.

In this book, her third with Martingale, Kay shows you several techniques to use up those small fabric scraps that you've been collecting in the hopes that they can be used in a project some day. Well, now is that day! Kay explains her 3 Scrap-Appliqué methods: shrinking strips, building bits and bobs and crazy patch, which she then uses in the 8 projects included in the book. I decided to try her crazy patch method and create a version of Kay's Crazy Hearts wall hanging. It turned out wonderful!This book is great for beginners, due to the easy and complete step-by-step instructions, as well as for more advanced quilters who want to use up their scraps in fun, whimsical projects.If you're looking for quick, easy projects and/or want to try some new techniques to use up those scrap fabric bits, this is the book for you.

Kay's new book will certainly give you loads of fun in the Scrap Applique' Playground. All of the projects in this book have excellent instructions that are easy to follow and have great visuals. Her techniques and ideas are also appropriate for quilters of all levels, also making this an excellent book to give to someone that has never done any form of quilting and wants to learn.You'll definitely look at scraps in a completely different way after you've had a chance to create using Kay's Scrap Applique Playground.SewCalGal highly recommends this book.
