I have purchased two heating mantles (2000ml and 1000ml) from this company and I am very satisfied with both purchases. The first one is still going strong after 4 years. Both models have good temperature control and the stirrer speed control works well too. The heater has adequate power to quickly reach any desired temperature target. I would not hesitate to purchase this brand again in the future.

Works well and easy to use

Seems to function well enough. I like the digital temp adjustment. It would be nice to have an idea of the rpm of the spin bar, but not necessary. Really that's the big downside so far. Also not being able to use the heat at all without the probe could render it useless easily enough. Maybe have an option to use without temp probe. It heats up fairly quickly though, compared to some others I've used. To adjust the temp you have to scroll up and down by single digits, which is slightly tedious. It's absolutely great for the price though. Wish the thermo probe was more readily available for replacements. Almost all the mantle/probe and 2 neck flasks are flawed the same way. The probe ports are angled in such a way that causes it to go straight in to contact the spin bar when fully submerged. Making it very difficult to run batches to completion. I usually just bend mine a skoach to get it past the spin bar. Which is great until you need to use a glass thermowell (you can't just bend them without proper experience). Joanlab actually sent me a replacement for free! Very cool of them. I wish they made the 500ml mantle just the same.

None of my work can have any metals involved. This mandatory censor probe renders these units useless to me. These units will not even turn on without the censor plugged in. No instruction come with this unit to explain the digital abreviations displayed.

Cost is fine. I measure a good bit of difference between my Fisher thermometer and the displayed mantle reading. "Bowl" is not entirely concentric while my Pyrex 1000ml flask was inside. For some of you with concerns about the thermocouple supplied, may I suggest making your own with the properly fused end and the, say, K type (or other) for the expected temperature range. Since most are Teflon jacketed (or other thermoplastic), obviously, make sure the tip is sealed in silicone or other inert material immune to your "bath". My unit didn't come with a manual. Joanlab wants me to sign in for an inquiry. Don't think I'll take that path. Aside from getting a SOLID mantle, like something you'd find from Fisher, or other, and TONS more costly, I can deal with this. You just have to be creative.

Good product for its price. You cannot heat without the thermocouple plugged in. If the thermocouple malfunctions or breaks you’re out of luck. The thermocouple is being advertised as sealed with nickel/platinum probe end. The nickel platinum holds up and only corrodes slightly while being subjected to nitric acid but the internal wires are very susceptible to vapors at the joint where the supposed seal is located. In a matter of seconds nitric acid vapors will corrode the internal wires at the joint rendering your apparatus useless. If you leave the thermocouple out but plugged in it will max heat. There is no manual heat control. I find myself frequently having to throttle the heat with the on/off switch.

You can’t use the mantel unless the probe is connected and after 10 times of use the on/off switch stoped working and I had to replace that

It’s slow to get to the set Temp but it is amazing once it does. I tried putting the probe In the vapour phase during a distillation and it actually managed to hold the vapour temp exactly at 78 or 79 as I wished when distilling ethanol. More amazing, once there was no more ethanol, it still managed to keep at that temp despite no 78 degree BP liquid which means it kept the water vapour front a millimetre below the probe! You can use without the prob but just stick it anywhere and use the temp control to adjust it. There is a A C and L control when holding down the set button but no manual explaining what that does! Worth the money
